So the first thing I do when I get up today is check various forums to see if anything interesting is going on, and I see that someone has posted this on sb.com

And how exactly does it differ from all the other "Bird/Swine-Flu" "pandemics" which have erupted in the last decade and have failed to make even a notable percentage of the dead normal, "vanilla" flu makes every year worldwide ?

i think the person to person transmission is the diff

but just cuz it hasn't happened recently doesn't mean it can't. wrath of god buries all creatures and seeing how we're all kinda creatures it is prolly prudent to keep a couple islands untapped just in case you gotta counterspell that shit

Bird/Swine-Flu is vastly nastier in a human host because it still has a high mortality rate compared to human-flu in humans. That Swine-Flu pandemic? It's the same type of variant as the spanish flu (1918–1920) which killed an estimated 50 to 100 million people and killed an estimated 1% of the world's population during that period.

The real issue with H7N9 Bird Flu is that birds don't show symtoms, so the only way to tell if a bird population is carrting the damn thing is when people start dieing from it. Bird/Swine-Flu offer the promise of being nasty.

Uh... The world's population was under 2 billions in 1918-1920. So 50-100 million people would be something like 2.5-5% and not 1%. Are you sure you didn't misplace a few zeroes ?
