you get t'storms at the end of the heat wave too?
Yep. And we're still without power. I don't think DTE wants to pay people to fix it on the weekend or something.

Man I remember after one of the 4 hurricanes we got in 2004 we lost like $500 worth of groceries because we lost food in 2 storms due to power outage. FEMA doesn't pay for that, either.

what i like about ice storms is you might lose power for a long time, but at least you can move your stuff from the fridge to outside (or bring ice from outside in) to keep stuff cool

summer outages suck. i got lucky this storm tho, we had a lot of rain and some fierce winds that knocked some more branches off my big old tree, but i kept power the whole time.

How widespread were the outages? We lost it for like 15 hours up here in Maine.

So Beware the Batman has become something of a pleasant surprise. I'm still ticked at losing Young Justice of course, but this is a good series nonetheless.

is that the one where alfred totes around a gun?

According to promotional materials, yes, though he has not yet done so. He is more physically capable than normally portrayed, but no gun slinging yet.

It should be noted that he hurt his leg pretty bad in the first episode and is still in a cast as of the second. How long that remains is yet to be seen.

I thought the premise was a more grounded detective oriented Batman yet in the first episode they have a guy in a pig mask and a talking frog, so...

The second episode was more like that, albeit the chick did survive falling from a building on to a car.

It's more of a blend than focusing on one over the other. Batman here does focus more on the detective work than is usually portrayed in the movies and TV shows.

I'm aware of the Bond movie and it's proper title sounds like a porno, too.

But octopussies sounds like one even more and with a slightly different premise.

It's cute. It's better than Melodies of Life, much as the FF9 fanboy in me would like to argue otherwise. Just a crisper song.

I think 1000 Words is the best of the lot, though.

Not widespread. Its literally just our neighborhood.

And it still isn't back on yet. Nearly 24 hours without power. And because utility companies are a legal monopoly, I have no way to redress my grievance with them.

Well I meant more like "what state are you guys who lost power from" since it seems to have been not just a single local event last night.

Michigan. Metro Detroit area. There was another localized outage a little to the north of us but nothing else I've heard of.

Going back and re-listening to it, it has a couple moments that make me twitch a bit. Like when the guitar comes in. But yes.

Not for this place, or the place from whence it spawned. Here, and there, knowing obscure information about nerdy stuff doesn't make you weird. It just makes you one of us.

One of us. One of us. One of us.

So how's this for fucked up?

I am going on 24 hours without electricity, and later tonight I am going to LAN party at my friend Richard's house not one mile down the street. He has not lost power. What the hell could knock out power to such a small area and require this long to fix?

a few transformers or something could have gone up and they didn't have enough spares so are waiting for parts to be driven in from a longer distance

it could also just be their day off lol

The grids in the US are fucking weird.
