Man how hilarious is it that Cunt Cockula doesn't know what salad tossing is, and then attacks me for not being an ignorant twat?

Unsubtle, but it's a pretty straight-forward way to shit all over that thread.

Did you see the new level 1 version? Genius, but undoubtedly they'll pull off "Well John DeLancie stops you!!!" as soon as somebody sees the post. Anyways, I'm off to troll some more.

Probably, but that leaves it open to "Well the omnipotent version of me from a reality where he was not stopped by John DeLancie uses his powers to retroactively stop him from stopping me!!!", which will surely devolve into an overall increase in the average quality of the thread.

I've yet to become drunk enough to read and comprehend the sheer fuckassery of that dragon thread. And I've gotten pretty drunk this past week.

Yep, that's where it's at right now, so I'm dropping the mask and getting all sincere.

Simon is a bit ignorant of what terms mean
What it comes down to is whether you treat D&D rules as literal, mathematical laws that govern the basic realities of the universe (a human being occupies a 5x5 foot square on the ground, and teleports from one square to the next in five foot increments). Or whether you treat them as simulationist mechanics for representing a (complex, magic-laced) underlying reality, in which no good purpose is served by tracking a man's position to the inch, even though he is perfectly capable of choosing to move one inch to the left or right.

simulationism is rpg rules that simulate reality in some way

so simon is saying: "you can treat these rules as simulations of reality, or as simulations of reality"

I get the impression he means something like...when gamers make a distinction between "arcadey" and "Simmy"? Maybe? Could be he's just mental.

Mad props on owning Rouge from here to eternity, by the way.

Yeah, but I love that he throws out "simulationist" without even knowing what it means. It's a very specialized word that really only applies to like five or six role-playing games that have ever been sold commercially, and yet he's picked up on't unknowing! Or, rather, a whole bunch of people seized on it for D&D 3.5 because they thought that simulates=good.

Thank you, I'd feel prouder but it's just too damn easy.

I wanted to end the last post with "Or you could run away from a debate with me on ethics. Again." but thought it'd be a bit too cruel. I think, from here on out, I'm just going to try to slip a mocking .gif at the beginning of every reply to him. Or a picture of a Platypus, because Platypodes are much more interesting than he ever will be.

the way he used the word is bizarre

because i have literally never met anyone who thinks 'simulationist' is good

bakustra i can do a LETS READ RPG for phoenix command if you like

THAT'S simulationist

do it! i've heard things about it but i've never really seen it in action so to speak

edit: and 3.5-loving fattynerds usually use it as a positive because they attack 4e and other such games as "too much like WOW" so they can't claim gamist, and narrativist is firmly sewn up by the ron edwards types, and les grognards are very willing to get into "my verisimilitude!!" too

Pointed it out in the TEO thread, but I'll note here: Forgothrax is a bad DM whose attempts at railroading grow transparent with the slightest nudge. I eagerly away the groupiefats to angrily announce that *they* enjoy rules that only seem sensical when no creative thinking is applied to them.

well to be fair pun-pun and diplomancers and the like are thought experiments not intended for play

but

the entire approach of basing it on numerical rules and the like opens it up to having holes poked in it

and i want them to get away from that, so they can get back into grotesque and malformed sexuality

EDIT: christ almighty they are bringing out the alexandrian
