I call him lord wong because I think it's kind of amusing. Hell I call myself Darth. A part of the reason I was confused is that I have seen people disagree with him (lord of the rings, radar tech) and the people either aren't banned or Wong is able to admit he's wrong or withdraws. Another thing that sort of confused me was that many of the accusations him being a tyrant were made when he wasn't even on the board (he took a fairly long hiatus), while another accusation is that he alienated everyone (Dalton is another prominent friend from the ASVS days who is still a mod to this day); Wayne poe's departure was just an ugly mess.

Darth Wong (again I like calling him that) is hardly perfect or an expert on everything, but a few of the accusations threw at him did seem a little......over the top. For the most part he's fairly cool when discussing movies, science fiction, or engineering, and he hasn't really been on the board that much lately.

I'd have no problem with that. But my life is a bottomless pit of despair and nothing can pull me out of it.

I think it's mainly a certain type of immaturity which was never really grown out of.

I was involved in some aspects of the versus debate once on the old STrek-v-SWars website, and I was fairly rabid about it at times. I don't remember much about why I was so far involved beyond the fact that I was a stupid kid who liked science fiction and liked to have a reassurance that my favourite example (Star Wars, in this case) was the 'best' in some manner. Maybe. Naturally, looking back on it, I think I was basically just being a moron who was jumping on a stupid bandwagon, but I think most people's first use of a time machine would be to go back about eight years and slap their stupid teenage selves upside the head.

The thing is that Darth Wong actually flat out stated on the website "yes I know it's an immature hobby. That's why I enjoy doing it. It let's me relax and unwind after a long day of work." Then he went on to say that it's a nice diversion from work when your off duty. The primary reason that he chose Wars and Trek was because those were his two favorite series as a child (though the only star trek series he loves absolutely is the original series; Tng is kind of conflicting, and he flat out loathes DS9 Voyager and Enterprise.) It's on the faq in the main site

So he identified a personal issue and then never grown.


Yan I am not sure that Wong, who by all accounts appears to be a reasonably happy successful guy needs you to pathetically white knight for him

It was largely curiosity. I was curious as to why he is disliked. I guess I came on to strong with my personal opinions. The wars trek debate kind of died around 04 05 and he has had a lot of hiatus's.

Anyway we discourage talking about SDN and people that don't post here because it's kinda tasteless, and I'm going to extend that to people defending people from over there because that invites the kind of negative, criticizing posts we want to avoid. Positive environment and all that jazz.
