It's not just for you guys. My old school student group runs an IRC server but it's flakey as fuck because it's also a test machine for the new members, so I wanted to make a more stable alternative.

Just use discord. No mus, no fus, plenty of controls and bots.

Over on Questionable Questing, it has a pretty accurate assessment on the rise and fall of SD.Net (with its main points of failure being mini-cults of personality and over zealous, inconsistent moderating or/and angry debating).

EDIT - also as time rolled on, with 2003 being a fucking long time ago now, we have a pretty big shift in attitudes to online behaviour and the core members of SD.Net drifted apart for one reason or another.

When you get down to it I do think that Wong was right about more things than he wasn't, and that being aggressive and willing to call people out when you think they're dishonest or immoral is a good attitude to have in general.
