that macross world thread wrote:MechAssault is/was fun but it's basically just a 3rd person shooter. It also has an arcade feel so I can understand why it's mostly ignored.
there's a no CD patch but some say it doesn't work well on xps

talking with people brings out the best in me i guess
in response to "big stompy robots that are utterly helpless against their own weapons" being kind of realistic if Mechs are supposed to be WALKING TANKS
(12:32:34 PM) Andrew: Yeah but even tanks have defenses
(12:32:48 PM) Andrew: Their armor is designed to (hopefully) deflect glancing blows
(12:32:55 PM) Andrew: they're low to the ground
(12:33:07 PM) Andrew: have smoke grenades and cameoflague
(12:34:02 PM) Andrew: A Valkyrie has its speed against missiles. Later ones have shields for deflecting bullets. Mobile Suits have natural jamming, agility, and power.
(12:34:11 PM) Andrew: All a battlemech has is hoping the other guy misses
(12:34:42 PM) Andrew: they are less adept than a soldier with body armor
so is this really just the same shit for like a decade

i don't remember mechs getting knocked over when they lose a leg, just coming to a stop and hopping on one leg
maybe that's mercenaries though, i never played mercenaries

GUYS
BATTLETECH PODS.
Apparently some places still have them, but none close to me. This is a crime, and while I am not one who needs an obscene amount of money to be happy I would not refuse enough wealth to buy a dozen or so.

the lol of the really wide mechs losing a leg when moving and not falling down is beyond the conception of modern informatics

the Mad Kitties tumble over in a really funny way
like they're so top heavy they just keel over onto their B-29 cockpits

Supposedly it's a modified Armored VF-1A Valkyrie Crusader
also most of the buttons on the keyboard are so you can individually change each HUD element
you can have a full screen of nothing but heat displays
because heat is very important

"Group fire"? What the hell?
Every memory I ever had of MechWarrior 2 is "Anhkmped-fire, engaged."
I don't get it.
EDIT: Oh, you're playing Mercenaries. That has to be the reason.

you find a kitty with its leg blown off, its LRM packs baking in the sun
you could roll an assist and help it stand up
but you're not
why is that

for me it was the classic star wars arcade game cabinets with the red line vector graphics that made you feel like you were in an x-wing

joviwan wrote:Okay, so I've narrowed it down
My two favorite parts of btech are
1) assigning narrative to what just happened while playing megamek (Gary 7 valorously rammed his truck into the Warhammer's foot. He died instantly, warhammer unscathed, but the bridge collapsed under the added weight and dropped him 300 feet into a river. Gary 7 was awarded posthumously for his quick thinking and hasty self sacrifice).
2) PODS!
man these were so cool as a kid
I'll be honest I'd think they were so cool right now, if there were any that existed anywhere near me
