Sex sells, right? PETA is desperate because more folks know the meme People Eating Tasty Animals than know the invented, original meaning of the acronym. I love the response to the FAQ "What rights should animals have?" Just brilliant.

Dude. I have to make ladies sign a waiver before hand to protect me from damages. It's usually a real dealbreaker.

And that's about as far as I'm willing to dignify the sexism of that ad. Fuck PETA.

That would be funnier if a bunch of (men) hadn't asked me that in earnest when I discussed the sexism inside a lot of the animal liberation movement.

There is this mindset in the 'animal liberation' community that is just reprehensible that everything has to come second to the saving of animals no matter what the cost in perception.

I'll tell you a personal story, I did work for an outfit (not a big one but if you know the NonProfits that do animals you've probably heard of them), and I would help flier across preset locations across New York City. This included going to places like Flushing (predominantly Chinese immigrants), and Harlem and handing out these pamphlets that were the most sanctimoniously worded pieces of garbage that didn't just preach veganism but acted as if they were evangelizing the heathen in the process. I was in Harlem one day handing these fliers out on a street corner about two hundred yards from a black panther book stand and I (big, tall, thin white dude with a middle class background and a good amount of private education) just became disgusted with the way we were approaching this. When I went back to the office I tried to talk to my boss about how I felt like we were acting like colonial dicks who were probably doing more harm than good by going into places like this and trying to show minorities the 'right way' to live their lives, and he just looked me in the eyes and said "Yes, but we're right."

This is not a rogue opinion in the community. There is this idea, spawning mainly from PETA, that because the suffering of non-humans is probably the worst crime of the generation (and this is where I part paths) anything that you do to try and alleviate their suffering is justified because the potential good outweighs any harm. Be it dressing up in KKK outfits and comparing non-humans to black people, fat-shaming, or the worst sorts of sexism, and any time you try to challenge them on this they respond with either "yeah, but we're right" or "grow a thicker skin." It's disgusting. I hate it.

The week after that comment I left. I got the job I had before this and have been happy being back in the debate community ever since and have done more for non-humans than I could have done there in a decade.

This is where I wound up after that tank vid posted earlier. Best bit is from 4:00 on, and top comments sell the whole thing.

The repeated 'vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr SKOOF' of the RCprise getting a few seconds flight before ditching in the long grass set to Patrick Stewart's serious voice is cheap comedy, but it's still comedy.

The weather is pretty miserable. I mean it's the dead of winter and its still too warm to wear my spring jacket some days.

And the humidity. augh.

But other than that, Mayor Ford, dreadful road congestion, and a horrible train system that gets totally overloaded by the second stop, its great.

Yes, it is. No time to put in to learn the basics, to consistently practice, which means little enjoyment for much effort. Effort that is difficult to spare.

I see now why 40 hour work weeks are preferred, they leave you with time to live life

he was bisected at the waist and fell down a reactor shaft, bouncing off all kinds of shit on the way down, and lived

at least the darth vader vs maul comic had the good grace to say "what if some lunatic cloned darth maul and hit on vader's mom"
