Fuck. For some reason my 360 is no longer able to connect to the internet. I haven't even had this thing for two years yet.

the first time i ever heard of the friendzone thing was on this website called the ladder theory (back then the author wrote it under his real name but i think he has since anonymized it all lol. idk if it is supposed to be satirical or not but def misogynist text!)

this was like 2003, it was spreading through teh high school

When I was in my early teens if you got put in the friendzone, it was more or less another way of saying, "You dropped the ball." At some point over the intervening years that shifted to, "She's being shallow."

When did that happen?
When people stopped being able to deal with rejection

Well I guess it's not just my 360. Pretty much every device I have is having a hard time getting an internet connection. They can all get on the wireless network just fine, but sometimes they only have local access. Not to mention the internet has been going out more often lately and i've been getting wildly fluctuating download speeds for the past month. I think the piece of shit modem WOW gave us is starting to fail.

So at least 11 years ago and roughly 9 years after I first heard the term.

Wait... people could deal with rejection? I don't remember that...

More seriously, having heard what ya'll have said, it seems to me that it's the internet's fault. That, as the internet began to become widespread that, rather than peers IRL telling people that they'd been friendzoned and needed to move on/try something else/get it together/whatever, little sub-groups formed saying, "No. No, no. It's not you. It's her fault that you're being a creep." Which is bad enough.

But then it spread...

First time I heard the term was from an episode of Scrubs. It's probably why my default mental image of a shallow, self-centered, self-proclaimed "nice guy" looks like Zach Braff.

so i just got another chance to visit people with the missionaries. went to the home of an older lesbian couple, one of whom was a catholic nun for like 20 years. we got to talk with them for an hour or so and it was really cool, good stories, messages of love and acceptance.

tho the discussion plan the elders outlined didn't get touched upon at all, i guess the spirit had other ideas lol

I guess when they die they'll burn in the fiery pits of hell and not get to be the god of their own planet, then. Yes this is what Mormons actually believe. Dumbest religion ever.

Is that a fancy star trek way of telling him to turn it off and turn it on again?

not really. good people, even if they don't follow all the commandments, are still able to inherit a glorious paradise with Jesus Christ in the next life.

any suffering in the spirit world is reserved for those who choose to sin and aren't willing to let Jesus suffer in their stead - and people have the opportunity to learn about and accept Christ in the afterlife as well. but note that the suffering is temporary (it ends, at the latest, with the resurrection) and is proportional to your own sinful choices.

now, granted, this is all shortest of the highest degree of glory where righteous people who are married for eternity may inherit all the glories of god and be exalted, to become gods ourselves (albeit still under our own heavenly father). but not reaching the top doesn't mean you burn in hell.

So I've never really been able to tell, but what exactly is that Riker smilie doing, anyway? Holding his fist in front of his mouth? What's that supposed to represent?
