It was my understanding that ethics deals with stuff we can't really measure scientifically, like we shouldn't murder people because that dude contributes to society and shit.

Well to a point science can help refine ethics. But saying you can have an ethical system based purely on science is kind of silly, at some point you're going to have to inject empathy into the equation.

I'm pretty sure you can have an ethics system entirely based on science (or, at least, SDN's warped definiton of science as being 'anything with numbers FUCK YEAH PHYSICS', not the real one). It'd just be shit for everyone involved.
