I just did some random poking around and I came to the startling realization.

Just about every thread that's worthwhile has either been started by, or mainly populated with posts from, members of a certain clique OR, sometimes, moderators.

The rest all tend to be filled with posts from random jack-offs spewing inane drivel that tends to get quickly ignored.

In other words, if everyone here left SD.net would die.

Kind of sad, actually.

Is there any way to reverse that?

Not without a concentrated effort from the owner, admin and mods.

and who cares

why is one board more legitimate than another

if people who add content do it here or there or wherever it doesn't matter

Let it die, if it's time has come.

boards don't die

no no, it would just become unbearable

threads like the dragon thread would thrive and reach a hundred pages

Somewhere a bald eagle, British Bulldog, and French rooster are crying.

I don't know whether to be happy or sad that the consequentialism thread has detoured into the morals of Veganism. On the one hand, it's a good discussion to have and I'm always willing to talk about it, on the other hand it's derailed what was an otherwise interesting thread. :|

Well you've pretty much won, but winning a debate on TEO is always a battle of attrition. Unless someone can bring up the MATHS! people will keep arguing till someone gives up. I think you should ignore the veganism and make him answer why it's worse to protect all beings, than potentially killing all if SCIENCE! says it's good. Instead of answering why his system is good, he is arguing that some arbitrary alternative is bad.

philosophically bankrupt

dear god

i should finish my master debater game, it is my most brilliant idea

here is how that debate goes

subject: "can atheists follow the golden rule"
team choc: rhetorical pleading!, "i say no!"
team TEO (bakky): logical counter!, "what part of it requires god?"
it is super effective
balance: 90% to TEO
team choc: red herring!, "i bring you the code of hammurabi"
bakky is resistant, but for rest of team TEO it is super effective, for a combined super effectiveness
team TEO (not bakky) suffers confusion, for four rounds
team TEO (not bakky): unprovable position!, "there could be unwritten earlier sources!"
team choc is resistant
balance: 60% to TEO
team choc: logical counter!, "prove your assertion"
it is super effective
team TEO: basic logic!, "no you prove yours!"
it is super effective
balance: 60% to TEO
team choc: broken record!, "i bring you the code of hammurabi"
team choc's defence is increased
team TEO (degan): unprovable position!, "monkeys"
due to confusion team TEO's attack backfires
balance: 70% to choc

Man, the broken record is the best defence. When moderation is lacking you can just outlast the opponent cause he'll inevitably give up in disgust.

I'm just happy I was able to have a decent discussion in Pure SW even if we still disagree on some stuff.
