i bought a tablet that basically replaced eveyrthing i did on a pc besides text-entry heavy shit, which i genearlly do at work anyway

so yeah saying 'SPEND 5 FIGURES TO GET A SYSTEM STILL HOT SHIT IN ONE YEAR' is totally useless self-aggrandisement

i could have gone with a cheapo $500 pc but i figured i wanted mine to last at least 6 years before i had to upgrade

that and autodesk stuff takes a good bit of power

i think my shit will break before i'm motivated to upgrade it

it's a bit fo a laugh that the 'interesting' pc games aren't the 'high demand' ones

i think the pc game i've sunk the most amount of time into is dawn of war 2

not exactly taxing

the last pc exclusive i consider interesting was dins curse

cheap computers last pretty long too

my feeling is you ain't gonna need it, so don't spend on something you don't have a specific task in mind for it that you need right now.

if you do need something in the future, you can always just buy a newer compy at that time. the prices are tending downward, so the longer you wait, the more you save


liek lets say you buy a $800 comp now that you use for 4 years. u just spent $200 / year

or you go with a cheap ass $400 comp now that you use for 2 years then do the same then

you still spent $200 / year, but odds are that $400 comp in two years will outspec your $800 comp today anyway, and you get the redundancy of a second computer in case one fails out on you


and besides the value of cash in your pocket right now can justify putting off the purchase anyway. cash depreciates in value, but not as rapidly as computers



of course the most intense game i play is CHESS TITANS on windows vista so ymmv

since having a KILL0R WICK3D POOTOR jsut means you see more nose hairs in cutscenes

when you're a business, money you spend on business "investments" reduce your net tax liability; you pay taxes on the profit, not the revenue

me, the way i see it, whether i "invest" in crap that i'm probably not going to use or pay it in taxes to the government, either way, i just don't have the money anymore

so i keep my spending low


but there's a lot of people who just hate paying taxes for any reason

i know one guy who owns like 80 computers and says he does it to reduce his tax liability. so i'm like "what the fuck are you doing with all that useless shit now you are paying to store what's essentially garbage"

and he's like "better to have something potentially useful than to pay tax!"


ps, if you buy a $1000 computer, your net profit goes down by $1000, but you aren't taxed 100%... at most, you might have just shaved $300 off your tax bill

so the $700 i just pocketed is probably way more potentially useful to me than that computer gathering dust in your closet
