The majority of these sit unused (like, EVER). It has been ~2 years since last garage sale.

Step 1. Collect appliances.
Step 2. ...
Step 3. Profit

For Stark et al

In my defence, it was hot in that loft, and the last song of the night, so my voice was nearly done. Still, the punters loved it. No idea why the audio drops in a few spots but converted iFone video so yeah.

wait, is this a serious post? you have eight electric kitchen gadgets but you don't have an electric kettle

wtf
Coffee maker, spice grinder (repurposed coffee grinder), blender, toaster, hand mixer, pedestal mixer, food processor, rice cooker. I don't count the frige, stove, or microwave because without them, it's not really a working kitchen (I guess the microwave isn't totally essential, but it would be a total pain in the ass to reheat all leftovers in the oven).

TBH I can't remember the last time we used the blender and I can't think of anything it does the mixers or the food processor can't. Make smoothies, I guess, but honestly, I don't think I "get" smoothies. When I want fruit, I, you know, eat fruit. I'm willing to retire the blender.

Like I said, I can totally see the benefits of an electric kettle. But I don't feel like it's necessary, in the sense that my life and cooking would be so much easier with it that it's essential I own it. It's kind of a philosophical thing; this summer, we had to clean out my grandparents' house, and one of the things that struck me were the piles and piles of kitchen gadgets (and a lot of other crap with plugs) that had been used once or twice and then gathered dust for decades after. So the default assumption for me is "I don't need it", rather than "I'm sure this could be helpful".

OTOH, Meta is clearly a more talented and adventurous cook than me, and for the time being, due to how my work schedule keeps me out of the house until late in the evening, she's doing a lot more cooking than me anyway. So if she says we're getting an electric kettle, we're getting an electric kettle. I would have said "no way, don't need one, we have perfectly good pots" to the rice cooker, and that's turned out to be pretty handy.

Frankly, heating water in the microwave takes about as long as it does in the electric kettle. Maybe faster. I wonder if it isn't more efficient too...

Man I spent too much time around the HoI2 forums.

Because when people talk about electric kettles being more efficient, I wondered how many IC-days I would save by using one of those to heat water instead of the stove.

And then I hung my head in shame. :(

I like how you can use a microwave unattended and have it keep stuff warm for you

Poole who own kettles don't want a mug of warm water every now and then

They want the ability to mai constant tea for hours

Yeah good idea idiot

You can just say 'I don't understand or value the use case' instead of making yourself look like an idiot

or say 'lime scale' lol

Who knew cultural demands drove workflow and not lets make 99 trips to the microwave, gran

wat

oh i see

I wasn't saying you should throw away your electric kettle, I was saying if you don't have one you can use the microwave to quickly heat water if you only need small amounts.
