i started this semester hitting the ground running by identifying a problem with my workflow, which is that i ultimately spent too much time planning and more or less delayed things so i could perform them in discrete time periods
getting around that has greatly increased my flexibility and productivity (THREE DAYS IN lol so far so good) but now my tiny mind is exhausted after spending a bazillion months veging out during christmas break

It was a Lube City/Mr Lube/Jiffy Lube type shop, not my real mechanic.
Yeah, stuff sorta like that, or this. Thanks for the link.

my little netbook had two falls in the past week
the first one cracked the case - which is annoying, but basically just aesthetic damage.
The second fall fucked my power lead (the head of the lead is broken), and I'm not sure but I think it may have fucked the power input on the actual laptop as well
so now I'm going to have to buy a new power lead for £30, and even then that might not fix the issue

today i was the catalyst and torchbearer for burning all the bridges carefully cultivated by sfu campus christian groups and exposing their underlying homophobia
that's kind of like social consciousness right

How did you achieve that ?

so the sfu christian groups have come together for hosting an talk by william lane craig next week
in addition to being a famous philosopher of religion and basically professional debater (to quote a friend, he is better at bullshit than any of us ever will be at honesty) he's also a giant homophobe
as in
"But it’s not hard to show that homosexual behavior is one of the most self-destructive and harmful behaviors a person could engage in. This fact is not widely publicized. Hollywood and the media are relentlessly bent on putting a happy face on homosexuality, whereas in fact it is a dark, twisted, and dangerous lifestyle, just as addictive and destructive as alcoholism or smoking."
- wlc
initially this just started as another dumb facebook thing where i posted this quote on the wall of someone advertising the event as a reason maybe not to attend and indulge a bigoted intellectual charlatan
it has since ballooned into real life
i found similar views on the website of Power to Change (a campus evangelical group), one of the hosts of the talk, when they've spent the past few months setting up some events with Out On Campus, the local glbtq student group - i am grilling them on these views and showed their site to a friend of mine who's a representative in ooc, so they are now in the position of having to cancel those events since ooc will walk out or disavowing their own organisation
currently they are waffling like mad and are clearly in a bit of panicky damage control
and it looks like the student newspaper will pick it up
and the former president of the campus skeptics group pondered aloud to me about going full inquisition and interrogating all of the million different christian groups on campus into stating official positions on homosexuality instead of just continuing with a pattern of unspoken but apparent endorsement of anti-gay positions all over
all in all it's incredibly minor but today i was accidentally a vanguard for social justice/ the oppression of christianity by ivory tower elitists/ slacktivism
so that makes me happy

Well, GG then.
Let them crumble under the weight of their own bigotry.

My sister just finished her Masters at SFU, not surprised about the Christian groups though. There are a number of loud christians in the Lower Mainland. Especially in Langley.

I'm not surprised at all since Langley is right across the international border from Lynden, a little colony of conservative Dutch Calvinists who love hating on the gay population of the college town of Bellingham when they come in it for the basic necessities of life their creepy little shithole lacks.

The mouthy ones always seemed to be Pentacostal.
Not sure if I spelled that right. And lynden...i haven't been there in 20 years? We used to hop across. when gas was cheap.

I just watched that today. ON DVD. With subtitles. Finally I can understand what the hell Cogburn says.

Val told me halfway through that she couldn't understand him and was totally lost. God damn that girl had a mouth!
It's weird because with correct subtitles i hear him right and with incorrect ones i hear him wrong.

I have a lot of friends that are 20+ years older than me, and this remains a point of contention between us.
I prefer Bridges. They do not.

I grew up watching Wayne films, Dad is a big fan. But he doesn't do well with characters that aren't John Wayne, if that makes sense.

i like the fact that the only thing one of the bad guys says is animal (chicken) sounds
more bad guys should only speak with animal sounds

That was great. And the gang leader valuing him more then Tom Cheney was the best part of it.

I finally saw the new Tron last week. When it came out, I had the choice of Jeff Bridges in Tron, or Jeff Bridges in True Grit. I picked the latter, and never got around to watching the former.
