From a cursory google search of pages that aren't protesting SOPA, I found a page from 2009 with screenshots of them labeling Mark Sanford, John McCain, Arlen Specter, Mark Foley, Lincoln Chafee, Pat Toomey, and Ted Stevens as Democrats. They were, in order, facing a sex scandal, becoming the 2008 nominee because the far right was split, questioning Alberto Gonzalez, facing a sex scandal, losing a Senate race, entering the primary to face Specter in 2010, and being found guilty of ethics violations.

To be fair, they would've voted him in and it would have been in a visible forum with Wilkens saying that he won in some final post. I mean I guess they never sent him a PM and I guess Stark didn't check the Senate often, but it was there.

So it's a bit different from "oh hey two new green names" with not but a single mention of new mods literally anywhere. Not in the staff listing, not as an announcement thread, not even their names put in the Moderators column of any of the forums.

Maybe they were just like this:

"Hey we should make Stofsk and D. Turtle mods."
"Capital idea, old chum! What should they be mods of?"
"Uh... I don't know. Any ideas?"
"Nope."
"Well, okay. We'll just stick them in the group and figure it out later."
"Splendid! Let's do it!"

If you only look at the problems, it can look that way... gotta check the other side too as well as the overall accuracy.

It just seems to me that if someone in there actually gave an order to change it explicitly, somebody would have publically said so (maybe anonymously, but publically).

I think it was dickishness on the part of the people doing it as well as the poisonous atmosphere of the place, rather than some higher up saying "hey, here's an idea..."

I only have mod powers in a handful of forums so far, like Testing, HoS, Announcements etc.
