Just out of curiosity, is it still available for download anywhere?

Bought the new Shadowrun game, finished downloading it (good god, a modern game less than 800 MB in size ? Impossible !). I'll see if it's good.

(un)related, waiting for the release of Wasteland 2 this fall, seems like it will be interesting.

So I have been thinking that a remake of FF6 with FF13's graphics would be the greatest thing ever. Well, second greatest thing after the FF7 remake.

It would be awesome though. They'd need to use the sprite designs of Terra and Celes, however. Those are way better than the artwork designs. Not sure about Kefka...

Didn't Kefka appear in one Kingdom Heart game ? That could be a basis for a re-vamp of its character design.

No, he's in Dissidia (a FF fighting game, basically) along with Terra. They're based off their artwork rather than the in-game sprites.

So I've played a bit of the Shadowrun game. Overall, it's pretty good. Interesting story so far, decent graphics, and the isometric view does bring up a bit of Baldur's Gate, Syndicate, and X-COM nostalgia. I've been playing as a Decker, focused mainly on decking and Charisma, so I haven't exactly been super useful in most combats so far. I've only run into one mission so far where I could use my character for decking while the rest of the party shot up the place. It's not a total waste, though, since my build has allowed me to bypass a decent number of the non-combat puzzles and avoid some combats altogether.

The game seems to mostly be selling itself through its mission builder function, which makes me wonder if they have considered adding in some kind of multiplayer, both co-op and versus.

With all that out of the way, it desperately needs a manual save function. I'm frankly baffled that there's no way to save progress outside of the autosaves between maps.

Yeah, I'm also a bit peeved about the saving thing.

Playing as Troll Physical Adept, with a decent amount of points invested in assault rifles. And with 4 Action Points, I'm kind of going for the DPST.

It's pretty fun so far, but I kind of loathe the Matrix parts of the game. I hate the "ticking timebomb" feel they have.

I didn't quite get that feel about the Matrix parts, if only because I haven't run into many of them yet, and I've destroyed everything in the ones I have done. First Matrix encounter I ran into was the mission with the brain-hacked junkies being forced to attack by the Yakuza decker, and I had sunk so much karma into decking skills at that point that I completely wiped the floor with him.

Well, I haven't invested anything in Decking, so I'm forced to use the other deckards in my hand, and they aren't exactly optimized. it takes a certain number of turns even in the best conditions to wipe the floor with the various adverse ICs, and while I'm busy doing that the clock is ticking.

And when the countdown reach zero, killer ICs start appearing by pairs everywhere.

Ah, so that's what happens when the timer hits zero. Yeah, I can see why it'd be a problem.

There is a program that reduces alert level, though, so that should be able to buy them some time. Do none of the NPC deckers have it?

Johnny Clean has it when you deck with him. But he isn't a shadowrunner.

The two deckers I'm using on that mission don't have it.

I haven't found anything recently. I actually have the original discs, believe it or not!

Re Shadowrun : Forget about grenades, invest everything in medpaks !

The only downside I see with the vanilla campaign, at least so far, is that it seems relatively linear. Not that it's a bad thing, given this is a story-focused RPG, but apart if I decided to do a charisma-based character I would have to replay all the dialogs in exactly the same way.

Also, playing a Troll, it was advertised in the character creation screen that they were heavily discriminated against. So far, I think the subject of my race only came up two or three times in conversation, and it wasn't in a negative way. But I haven't finished the campaign yet, so I can't really say for sure if it's an oversight on the part of the quests-designer or not.

So playing an FF6 romhack, and those bastards had to go and patch out the Vanish/Doom trick, didn't they?

Almost made my attempts to magic grind with Intangir harder than it has to be. Except they didn't patch out the Confuse/Smoke Bomb trick. And in their arrogance thinking I'd have to win it the legit way, they bumped up the AP to 20. :smugdog:

So I guess they're banking entirely on nostalgia for this one?

What's nostalgic here ? I have no experience with the Ace Combat series.

Uh the first game had that huge aerial carrier as the last boss.

Yep.

I don't think that's a new carrier either.

Are they ever going to add a single-player or co-op skirmish mode to Mechwarrior Online? I want to Dakka robits to death but I'm not looking for another "online" game right now.

Probably not.

They just added 3rd person view which caused a riot about broken promises and dreams.
