I mean, I don't think it was literally called the Department of Republic Homeland Security (especially since the New Republic was no longer an existing state/government at this point), but that's pretty much what it was described as.

I mean, like Kylo Ren shows the idea could have worked with a younger Jacen. And a "Jacen goes overboard in his studies and goes all Dark Side bugnuts" plot could have worked too, though it would be a disappointing after the way the NJO ended.

So yeah, Karen Traviss is a bad writer. Not very happy with Troy Denning either, but at least he's written genuinely good stuff like Star by Star. I hear Traviss's first EU book was good too, but never read it and it wasn't nearly as epic and memorable as I understand it, and either way Denning has more history of good stuff.
