I like how that thing is basically an Armored Core only 15 years removed. Even has the chest turret and shoulder missile launchers.
Miyatake designed that thing and the other Destroids while Kawamori did the Valkyries and most of the Zentradi designs. Kawamori did the designs for the first couple of Armored Core games so I guess he was taking some cues from his buddy.

so i just finished the second Yukikaze book and seriously what the fuck is up with that ending
it's like, everything's starting to go down, serious shit is about to occur, Rei launches in Yukikaze and then BAM NO MORE BOOK
absolutely nothing is explained, none of the plot threads are resolved except for Rei's relationship with Yukikaze
I really fucking hope the third book gets translated soon, jesus christ

oh my god unicorn episode four
dakar is the valhalla of outdated mobile suits apparently
it's hilariously a product of the fifties/sixties (Sapphire cannot fight with swords without her boy heart) and often the things that influenced Tezuka are i bit more apparent than you'd expect (wow...those wolves just came directly from Flip the Frog didn't they?, also Madame Hell is just Maleficent) but it's still pretty boss and I love her character design
also there's apparently a remake by someone that came out recently I wonder what that's like-AUGH GOD BAD TRYING AND FAILING TO BE CLAMP ART

Adding Jerid Messa to any Mobile suit decreases coolness by 10% and effectiveness by 15%.
So it seems that they are celebrating the 30th anniversary in-universe by having the Macross 29 fleet celebrate 30 years since its launch from Earth. I expect more Ranka/Sheryl concerts.
Here is a summary of the description:
The 29 (two-nine) was happily sailing along when it encountered an incident, and a 1/4 of its habitable area was damaged. Because of a mandate to regulate its fold energy, it has to limit its trade with other fleets to those in close vicinity. On the fleet there are plenty of content manufacturers such as video game companies and record companies etc.
Anyway, here's the really important stuff I spotted:
There will be a Macross 30th Anni exhibition at Shibuya Parco during Golden Week.
"Who is that girl?"
It's the head of the company. The implication is that it's Big West real-life chief Ohnishi-san's alter-ego.
So if you look at the website carefully, you see that its mostly a big in-joke. The year is set to 2062 and the idea is that there is a company trying to organize the 30th anniversary celebrations. Even the photograph that they use for the office is in actual fact a photo of the building where the BigWest office is in Tokyo. And the other "staff" are kind of spitting images of BW employees. So they're just having a bit of fun...
EDIT -- Just to clarify, yes, the head of the company is female. She is the daughter of Yoshimasa Ohnishi, the founder (I'm sure you've seen his name in the English credits of MacPlus and MacII).
VHS being proportionately more expensive than other formats is understandable because those tapes were always pretty expensive, but for ~18 hours of content that's still insane. But then I remember hearing that Japanese home video has always been stupid high priced.

yeah their home video market is pretty bad
from what I've been told from people in the biz, the production company that helps organize the show and whatever network supports its initial broadcast gets most of the profits up front
so in order to make money the studios have to charge a lot for the show itself on video
also stuff in Japan is generally more expensive due to some inefficiencies in distribution and also the general market
plus a lot times you can just watch whatever show on TV at some time of day
or pirate it
those expensive box sets have become more a status symbol these days
and when your show is design to hock merchandise, the series itself isn't as important as a product
One of the issues in general with the American market is that it was based on selling movies and OVA in the beginning. Now those are arguable made to be products in an of themselves and were often licensed because at the time it was cheap to do so and you didn't need to sell people on picking up an entire series. In the end the US market was based on lies and self-entitlement :v
