That's fair
But in the same way you make decisions about what you find acceptable
So do people in regions with no other industry
Morality is not practicality
Impracticality is not a solution

Fair enough, i like to think I'm mellow enough not to be an ass about what people it.

That's my issue with reds evil thing. If I need to eat, I will do what i need to do. Clubbing a seal may be more "evil" but feeling good doesn't feed me.
But I am pro hunting...*shrug*

In the end you can't expect people to let their families die for abstract concepts
So to end crime or war or eating animals you need pretty solid alternatives

dude i was not dictating they should never ever do it, especially if they're so dependent on it
just like i don't go around yelling at people for eating veal or lamb or whatever, even though it's wrong to me i can appreciate they're their own person etc
mostly i was just saying it would probably be a terrible job and i don't think i could do it myself

But that's the inequality
Because some people don't get the choice
Like those dudes in whatever African country hunting shit to extinction because orherwise they'd all die

Incredibly good. Best red meat ever, IMO, prepared at mid-east or Indian restaurants. Lamb burgers are also exquisitely good, especially with some greek tzaitziki (sp?) sauce.

i'm also pro-hunting when it's handled smartly if for no other reason to stop those dumbass deer from eating themselves into starvation and helping people be more self sufficient but hey
obviously dudes in africa are in a different situation and they can either hunt everything or die but then the solution ism like you said, give them better alternatives
bunch of dudes up north killing seals for fur so they can eat is, like i said, better/less bad than people throwing male chicks into a grinder to save a few bucks and i wouldn't condemn someone for trying to help their family or even just stay alive

But the thing about capitalism is that the second someone can do something to subsist they can expand and do it for profit. The canadian mega corps of the 18th and 19th centuries are solid examples of that

yeah and if they don't temper their behavior then they fuck themselves and everyone else over in the process when they over exploit
our current totally fucked government is just a natural progression of capitalism but you'd be hard pressed to say it's practical or effective as it is

Just my personal conclusion on the whole seal thing :
Personally, I respect the right of people to hunt - as long as it is to sustain themselves (or to control populations) : If there's one thing I can't stand it's the assholes who hunt just for the thrill of it, for the pleasure of the hunt and killing something. These psychos disgust me on a profound level.
So I have no moral stand in my worldview to condemn seal hunt. And if, as has been said, young ones are spared, the quotas are heavily enforced and the species isn't endangered, I have no room to criticize the practice from an ecological standpoint either.
As has been stated, and if it's true the practice doesn't endanger the species, the only legitimate ground you have to condemn the practice is either a) on the specific method of killing, b) if it is demonstrated that the practice has nonetheless a negative environmental impact, or c) if you are of the opinion that killing living species able to feel pain to eat them is "wrong".
The problem with proposition C is that, depending on how you define pain, you could be precluded from eating even *some* vegetables...
It's a good thing I guess that my morale are loose at the best of times...

That depends on your definition of "justice". The dictionary definition of "justice" has to do with righteousness, fairness, and impartiality: terms which can be interpreted in many ways.
