You seem to be missing the point. The secretary of defense has to be a civilian. The military is beholden to civilian leadership and always should be.
Always? No it should not ALWAYS be. If the civilian leadership attempts to impose unjust laws and penalties, it is our job to defend the CONSTITUTION of the United States from ALL enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC.
