Didn't he also mention that one of his end of world priorities was to get out of his town ASAP?

Hard to do so with so much stuff I would imagine.

I loved explaining to Alyeska that all laws are, in effect, extortion. I wonder if he'll argue.

I'm sorry in advance that I don't subscribe to your wholly inconsistent, entirely unoriginal scientism (that's "science-as-religion," by the way; I wouldn't explain this, but then you haven't even read Descartes, so I'm trying to be charitable). I await your personal attacks with open arms.

'What, are you really going to call me religious for asking you provide a rational account for your worldview?'

This is some kind of Red Comet Kick.

btw i've said some "book learning" phrase liek thrice today

as you know i lol@myself a bit when talking about "learn-ed shit"

so when i was watching EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND yesterday and they had the following exchange i laughted pretty hard

so ray and robert are driving back to the city when they are pulled over by a state trooper for speeding

robert shows his badge to the cop hoping to get ray out of the ticket cuz they brothers in blue

the trooper replied "well you should have known better officer" still writing up the ticket

then robert is like "i don't know how you do things here in the boonies but we take care of our own"

then the trooper replied, in an exaggerated country accent

"well i don't know much about that book learnin' and dem numbers but it looks to me that this registration is expired too"

that's fucking funny

good television

but i had to steal that line both to continue to laugh at my uneducated ignorance (hey if you can't laugh at me at whom can you laugh?)

while at the same time thinking of that great mocking tone from the episode

the best part is the trooper was right there

You need 14,000 police doors because each town is a separate corporation wi their own police 'department'

Who cares about things like effective enforcement or social benefit or community policing or not shooting people

Better. If the freeze dried food leaks, you're not on the hook for half a million dollars in environmental remediation.

I like his style, but I'm not as impressed by the substance. He's making arguments that I think he knows philosophical laymen don't know how to address well (or even fully comprehend, in the case of some of the people replying), but if someone with a respectable philosophical education (cough meta cough) got in there, most of them would fall apart. He's presenting Descartes as an insurmountable obstacle to an ethical obligation to animals, but, like, philosophers actually have come up with a few answers for Descartes in the last 400 years.

Hilariously, zablorg exposed the silliness of his position without a philosophical response. Alyrium may have, too, though I can't say for sure because his posturing and histrionics are so tedious that his posts are unreadable.
