i just went to the bike shop to replace my old worn out brake shoes

i bring the bike so he can see what i have now and then ask the proprietor what he has in stock

now behind the counter he has some fancy $16 pads. but he says "oh you don't want to spend that much on brake shows considering how you ride that bike"

and i'm like "it's ok by me i really need to replace these"

but he says no that's too much money to spend on it and he'll check the basement to see if he has any used ones in decent condition he can just give away

(and it turns out he didn't have any but insisted the fancy ones are too much esp. since it is almost winter anyway and i'll be hanging that bike up for a while. so he looks at the brakes and says they'll be fine till the end of the season and he'll get some cheaper ones in stock for spring. and he's surely right so i chatted about the family for a few then walked out empty handed)

it just made me lol a bit, and he does this kind of thing a lot

how often do store owners actually downsell you?

The company I work for does that all the time. In large part because when it comes to computers, you are probably getting ripped off if you are taking a lot of the more expensive options. It's always a tragedy when we take on a new client and see their last provider saddled them with $10k+ servers or $1000 routers when they could have spent a fraction of that money and been just as well off.

Of course, selling computers and related equipment is not our primary source of revenue, so it's no skin off our asses if we don't make a ton of money off of reselling.

Why even care? If everyone is doped, you have to dope to be competitive.

Fuck pro sports anyways. I've been to OHL games that are fare more exciting then the NHL.

if he wasn't doped that would prove you don't have to dope to be competitive

and it is extra disappointing here because the whole lance armstrong brand was about being inspirational through determination and hard work; it was a great story.

now we just replace it with "lying cheater fooled testers"

Eh. I'm just indulging in a little hyperbole. It'll probably amount (mostly) to little more than the gnashing of teeth we currently get about the end of the world and ruining America and Muslim Manchurian Candidate who's giving away the country to illegal brown people so he can take away our guns.

But every now and then and I start wondering. Especially when I see footage of a fucking judge insisting that there will be an uprising if Obama's reelected.

Only when Obama wins, and even that depends on how well democrats do in this years races. I think Obama will win and the democrats will keep the senate as well as make some minor gains in the house. In an alternate reality where Romney wins all they will be talking about his how great a campaign he ran. :ice:

Eh. Obama has more paths to victory than Romney does. Even if Romney wins Florida and Ohio that only puts him one electoral vote ahead with the current maps. Romney's really got to shake daddy's money maker to catch up.

Man watching Romney's campaign is like watching your idiot drunk uncle at xmas. A whole lot of nonsense and "what did he just say?"

i just finished re-reading one of my fav pieces of internet fic, "the bridge to space" by mike combs. and i still like it and even appreciate it even more because i can imagine the scenery all the more vividly than when i first read it (and how much better it is than certain other internet fic i've read since then LOL)

but it is just so much fun to experience, and of course, some fun hard sci fi action and concepts

i intend to read through all his stories again in the coming month
