Well, if it's viable and safe, why not? It's not like Greece can't be trusted to care for the Elgin Marbles, for instance. I can see an argument made for holding onto a piece that was from, say Afghanistan, until it had reached a point where it was reasonable to ship it back there, but for a lot of modern nations, I see no reason to refuse requests to give back antiquities. And I'd be reasonably certain that a lot of nations would be interested in a sort of time-share agreement, with, say, Greece letting the UK keep a bunch of statuary and vases in return for some old Anglo-Saxon torcs and shit like that.

I wish I could have gone there when I visited the UK when I was 17. I was with a big student ambassador thing, though, so I didn't have much free time in London. Even if it would have bummed me out.

The day I went to the British Museum, not even 10 minutes into it the alarms went off and everyone had to evacuate.
Didn't have time to schedule another visit...


I should go back to London one of these days. Maybe even see a bit of the rest of the country ? I dunno what else there's to see in the UK for someone without a car or a driver's license...

i think they're talking about migration and ethnic makeups in the past where there is no evidence beyond 'hey how dark are these guys in reliefs'

IF you want evidences one way or the other, you could always dig up some corpses in Egyptian necropoles and then play Bones on them to determine what was their "race" or whatever.

People are trying to split hairs on whether or not ancient Egyptians were black people or not.

I mean, it's not like ancient Egypt was some giant crossroads where people from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa all met up and traded and invaded and shit for thousands of years or something.

Sir, I heavily disagree. In South Dakota my dad and I had a photo taken in front of four presidents after having breakfast next door to where Wild Bill Hickok was shot. In the early evening we drove through a national park which I soon recognised to be KLENDATHU, SOURCE OF THE BUG METEOR ATTACKS* and stopped the night in Wall, which has done a fabulous job of encouraging people to stop the night in what would otherwise be the middle of nowhere
