Just remember, there are people here (and elsewhere of course) who fully believe the things said by Limbaugh or Glenn or Coulter. Who say, unironically, that Fox News is the least unbiased news channel available. Who wholeheartedly believe that Obama is the worst president ever and that everything wrong with the country is all his and the Democrats fault and everything will be alright if we just get the Republicans back in power.
That's not me exaggerating, that's the literal truth.

yeah but how many of those are there, as a proportion? In terms of people you encounter every day (not being sarcastic, genuinely would like to know)

I don't have a number to give you, but, broadly speaking, virtually everyone I know believes most everything I just wrote past "who say". Some may feel more or less strongly than others, but I can't think of a single person who doesn't believe it those things to some degree.
I don't even bother with talking politics IRL in large part because of this.

Well I know my entire Dad's side of the family believes in that shit. I know some of them even think Michelle Bachman is the greatest thing in the world.
That's one reason there why I have not had much contact with my Dad's side of the family in a long, long time.
Fuck my Dad is the most liberal of them, and he still votes Republican and watches Fox news religiously. And I've run across people at places I have worked who buy into alot of the right wing conspiracy shit too.
So again in my (limited) experience I'd endorse what Spartan said.

every morning i start looking at the stuff for work ready to hammer it out
but then the list is just so idiotic that i just don't want to do it
Aaron, as a former member of the military, what's your opinion on women being allowed to be part of the infantry ?
I know it's already a fact in France, as for example there are females paratroopers. The only exception I know of segregated units is the Foreign Legion, which is AFAIK exclusively male - so all the units it's made off are male-only.

Doesn't bother me, they are already in every other trade.

It's always struck me as odd how the physical requirements for fighting in the US Army in the modern era are apparently so much more strenuous than they were in the 1700s, the Spanish Civil War, or the American Civil War, all of which had women fighting effectively as frontline infantry, both in and out of male disguise.

Its got nothing to do with it. Female artilleryman have to load and hump around 100+ pound shells, the guys just don't want them there.
I know a ret PPCLI CSM that flat out stated there would never be woman in his regiment (as infantry) because the instructors would fail them or the guys would drive them out.
Its pretty funny in a fucked up way, they'll deny up and down that their gay but they won't let woman in.

I've always got a bit of a laugh over people like that. I know some men, mostly old assholes, who seem to be barely able to tolerate being in the same room as a woman, but will fly into a rage if you make that crack at them. If they are not in denial, then they have the maturity of a 3-year old scared of catching cooties.

Man, i had no idea misogyny was the sole province of gay people.

it is possible for angry people to be angry at both women and gay people, indeed i would say it is common for angry people to be so

if I misunderstood i apologise. But yes that's what it looks like to me. 'I have decided these people must be closet gays because they won't let women in the army.' The one does not follow from the other in a logical fashion. Like I was implying people can be misogynists and not like women/want to keep them servile without being gay.

No. I used it because it got them upset and exposed them as homophobes as well as hating woman. May as well kill two birds with one stone so those of us with a brain can avoid them.

Misogyny is Australia's word this month and the rest of you can hit the bricks
