I'm sorry, that's just such a flippant position, it's only tenable when you're an atheist deliberately trying to :smugdog: to all the religious weirdos, I don't think it's particularly well-thought-out
I've learned to read with the Gospel.

I am convinced that if God exist, then It is Love and Forgiveness.

Pretty much, yes.

Maybe It exist, maybe not - if I were the playing type I'd bet for not but what do I know ?

I simply refuse any form of worship.

Because if she's the former, you can easily agree to happily respect each other's opinion

After all, religion IS a deeply personal thing. You don't have to share it with anyone else.
Surely you realize that, from my perspective, she's going to hell, right?

Not in the sense that I want her to go there. It's simply the fact of the matter.
I thought you said you were a liberal Christian? Most Christians I know don't believe that good people go to hell just for nonbelief. Some say Jesus will appear to them after death and ask if they want to be saved. Some say the nonbelievers go to a more limbo-y purgatroid place. Some say that the fact that those people are good means they believed deep down in their secret heart of hearts. Etc. Many Christians I know don't even believe in hell, so much as a lack of God in the afterlife or lack of afterlife.

If you believe in a literal hell where all the nonbelievers go, despite their acts, how can you consider yourself to be a liberal Christian? (Not to mention how that makes you feel about God.)

PS: Have you ever heard of the Noachide laws for righteous gentiles? Basically, these are seven fairly-easy laws for non-Jews to follow in the Torah to get into heaven. Is there no equivalent thing in the New Testament? Is Jesus really more of a hardliner on the afterlife than Old Testament God? Wow.

I'd try to read it, fail, and just enjoy reading the surrounding hoopla.

I just went off on a bunch of 19 year old drunks making too much noise. I'm an old man. Time to head home, I guess.

I got up to "Broomstick starts rebellion in hell!"

It's like... chapter three.

I've been meaning to get around to reading that forever.

I know it's supposed to be terrible, but goddamn does it sound awesome when it's summarized at TV Tropes.

I'm sure there's a number of religious groups out there who think you're going to hell for being a Catholic instead of their own brand of zombie worship.
ryan does not regard catholicism as a religion

guys guys guys

let's not pile up on Ryan for his beliefs and his girl problems

let's talk about mine instead

i think im getting somewhere with the girl i really like but i'm still unsure of where we are and whether she's okay with going forward

on the other hand the other girl who really likes me has gone out with me 3 times and i think it's looking like it might get serious

and i'm pretty sure if i could get over girl a i would realize i do like girl b (because i actually tried to date her a few years back but she wasn't interested at the time lol) and i think girl b would be less objectionable to my family than girl a too

which is not as significant as who I decide I like, but still a factor in future happiness and all

basically this is really shitty timing and the ideal time for girl b to holler at me would have been in the fall after girl a broke my heart in the spring

instead now i have to decide if i'm gonna be a douchebag and juggle two women, drop one that doesn't deserve that just for the chance of being with the other, or dropping the one to be with the one i wouldn't really be fully with because really how do you stop feeling?

Answer Key: Phant would be a douchebag in all three situations, and would be miserable if he went for the fourth choice of not dating either of them.

me next i've been seeing this lady for a while now (our availability to each other is pretty limited so it's a little more slow-motion than that might imply) but even though i like her i am pretty sure i have all sorts of repressive attitudes re: physical/emotional intimacy as a general thing which is probably going to present a problem somewhere down the line

man wouldn't it be hilarious if it's because of constant exposure to weirdos who horrifically fuck up everything they touch and whine obliviously about it on the internet

Zabs, you're a pretty charming guy online at least, so I figure even if you do fuck up you've got some leeway there. Also, the best way to figure out and fix any issues you have is when you're in a relationship already so they come to a head and can be directly addressed.

I'm with biscuit. Put aside your fears of becoming like me and just be yourself. I'm the way I am because I was emotionally abused for six years while being physically exhausted, which left me a broken shell. But you? You've got your whole life ahead of you and so many choices that you get to make. So live well! Please. For yourself. And a little bit for me.
