evilsoup there is something wrong with you.

Rogue, I think we've already discussed my lack of appreciation for random musical numbers before. And these ones weren't so much plot appropraite at plot replacing.

I do like songs like Winter Wrap Up, Art Of The Dress, May the Best Pet win, because they allow you to cover a lot of ground that might otherwise be boring, and are also fun lyrically, visually whatever. But the ones in this episode were 'twilight puts the plot summary to music' and thats bad.

I was actually intriqued by the cutie mark swap plot. Then it was instantly resolved. I did enjoy the continuity when Spike was suggesting solutions the cutie makr problem. Less so Celestia's 'here is a clip show which i am not going to give to you' song.

But apparently the whole thing was dictated by hasbro anyway....

wait
are you saying you would have preferred a clip show episode to celestia's song?

No. no, I don't think so. I just thought all the screens around her in the song were a bit weird.

And also there must be better things for Celestia to get a song about than how awesome twilight is. But that would need to be in an entirely different episode.

I really liked the magic hall of youtube, but then I'm a bit of a sucker for that kind of rapid-flashback stuff

Well we'll just have to agree to disagree on liking it vs not liking it I guess. *shrug*

I mean, I do agree that there are definately ways it could be improved: two parter for sure. But given that it seems the production crew were somewhat hemmed in on what they could do, I thought they did a pretty good job despite the limitations imposed upon them.

It's not going to be my favorite episode or anything like that, but for what it was I enjoyed it.

Huh.

Lame Matrix reference is lame. But that's some quality artwork right there.

I am conflicted. :|

Yeah except Neo had already learned to fly before that scene

Bloody good artwork though

random thought. Alicorn Twilight is just regular twilight with wings. But the other princess look different from the other ponies right? longer legs etc. Are they going to further change her design for s4 do you thing?

Either she'll get a growth spurt, or her form will come to evolve in the decades/centuries to come.

Positive point : the probabilities that Spike will outlive Twilight now seems low.

Negative point : we can't say the same of the rest of the mane 6. :(

That's an interesting point, Oxy. Does this mean Cadence is going to outlive Shining Armour as well?

I dunno, I never got the impression Cadence was as long lived as Celestia/Luna.

Yeah, if Cadence was centuries old and functionally immortal is seems like something they would have mentioned.

Cadence is probably just a winged unicorn. At least that's how I see it. A random genetic anomaly. ... Heh, good potential fanfic material there, thinking about it...

Twi, on the other hand... I dunno. That whole "destiny" stuff seems like it could lead to her being as long lived as the sisters.

Oh course Cadence could be immortal and like twilight only recently taken the alicorn prestige class. So she hasn't lived for centuries yet.

Was it just me or was the first official reference to alicorns as alicorns? I can't remember the word being used before.

The first reference was in the trixie episode, with the "alicorn amulet".

cadence had wings when we saw her as a teenaged babysitter
it's possible that she earned her wings by creating the love spell, though I think she was referred to as celestia's niece somewhere (outside the show, but official-ish), and she has this whole link to the crystal empire going on
idk

For now my headcanon would be that she was born of normal parents, who have no link to Royalty. And when Celestia heard that a winged unicorn was born, she decided to take her under her wings.

As for the crystal empire thing, maybe that's another freakish destiny / reincarnation thing ?

also, her cutie mark now has six stars, rather than five

Those are just perspective issues, though the last point is business

But this is the first time they definitely used it the same way the fandom does, as opposed to the 'real life' meaning.

There's a difference ? I wasn't aware of it.

it's supposedly a word for the material that a unicorn's horn is made of
AFAIK, there's no 'official' mythological term for a winged unicorn

EDIT: Wikipedia tells me that the meaning we're using here was invented or popularised by Piers Anthony.

I was kinda surprised, since I remembered seeing a quote from the script of the season two finale where Chrysalis was referred to as a "Pegacorn"
