You know, I was watching an episode of Hawaii 5-0 from the 70s and they had airport security people who were checking bags (as in, opening them up and ruffling inside) and nobody seemed to treat that as anything special.

But maybe that's just because it's an island.

Ok so a U.S. museum won't return a loaned piece of art to a polish museum in clear violation of the terms of their lease. What does that have to do with Britain stealing shit from Egypt? And why Is Thanas falling for broomie's blatant attempt to change the subject?

Because he will tolerate no criticism of the glorious Fatherland by the Amerikanere.

Honestly it's a pretty boring thread because the actual story are Polish and American historians going "Uh, how do we move this thing without destroying it?" while the internet tryhards stand around in a circle chanting "Fight fight fight!"

I do have to give some credit to Broomstick for (probably unintentionally) baiting Thanas into getting all White Man's Burden re: Egyptian artifacts in Germany.

"Oh I remember when there was no airport security."

Yeah, so do I. I'm 34. Shut the fuck up.
I remember when you could smoke on an airplane and drink a fifth of whiskey! While feeling up the stewardesses!

(not really)

You know how Santorum was saying that like 10% of all deaths in the Netherlands were from euthanasia, some of it involuntary? I wish it were true and we could send Broomstick there.

got an email saying "Save the internet from the US"
Right now, the US Congress is sneaking in a new law that gives them big brother spy powers over the entire web -- and they're hoping the world won't notice. We helped stop their Net attack last time, let's do it again.
welp

told you they'd keep at this shit until the owners of society get what they want :hurfhurf:

ps acta is still going strong

pps when will we see protests against google or facebook for already collecting even more personal information on everyone, or is it somehow okay when explicitly for-profit businesses do it for their own secret purposes?

this show on cbs had a line about that

fiction

so this guy was all liek "the government was trying for years to figure out how to get this info from ppl

and then i had this idea where we'll just ask them for it"

and the other guy was leik "u invented social networking?????????"

"its for the machine"

i lold a bit

and threw up a bit

i'd prefer it if it was some secret government plot

at least then i could comfort myself by saying it is used for some kind of JUSTICE

mah response:

If the modern world is growing excesses of the bourgeoisie causing greater problems for regular folks via failing financial systems, environmental damage, and an unquenchable thirst for war, maybe being out of touch with it is a good thing.

I guess when you have been under embargo for more than 50 years, it makes some amount of sense to stay under a political regime that ensure a fair redistribution of scarce resources ? :v

....

Man, I'm suddenly reminded of how in one of the books of the TBOverse, SS portrayed a Cuba under the rule of Chicago mobsters as a real and objective improvement over the Batista rule. It was glorious.

More or less unrelated : I remember, one day I was walking in the scientific library of Grenoble's University, and I found a Cuban peer-reviewed publication talking about works on nuclear fusion. Didn't read it, but I was positively surprised to see that they were doing at least some research on the subject with their limited resources - tell something about them, when you know the state of their economy.

it really amuses me how in REFLECTIONS OF FIDEL "the author" regularly says simply "the empire"

for example
I then had to visit him, given that he was the president-elect of a friendly country. I met with a bitter and resentful man. He was already the model of a "democratic and representative" government that the empire needed.

on climate change:
Figures such as this are bitterly understood by a growing number of leaders of rich countries; but the hierarchy that leads the most powerful and rich country on the planet – the United States – is consoling itself by affirming that such forecasts are the fabrications of scientists.
if i didn't know any better i'd call that lies and socialist propaganda meant to make the us look stupid and evil

.... but alas i do know better :-(

the thing with reading all this stuff is it leaves me in a crisis of faith

fidel castro doesn't seem so bad

neither does ahmadinejad or chavez

but they are supposed to be evil enemies of freedom according to our totally free and independent us new media

i could call these speeches and blogs propaganda and lies

but i know much of it is not

and if castro can be right about one thing

he might be right about more things

wtf wtf wtf

somebody tell me what to think
