I'm reasonably sure Tolkien made it a point to show somewhere in the books that deep down Gollum was still a very old, very tired hobbit. It was part of what made Frodo empathize with him so much.

Kinda cheating I guess to throw in those New Lunar Republic parts at the end, but then I always love me some good NLR so can't complain.

I'm suddenly reminded of the time this guy in a chat I used to hang out in pissed me off, so to get back at him I convinced him that I was into beastiality so as to fuck with his head and get him to publically make an idiot out of himself, and then went around behind his back getting everyone else to place bets on how long it would take him to figure it out.

As part of this I started calling a girl I was friends with a "pretty pretty pony."

In retrospect, this seems somewhat ironic.
