i guess Arcadia of My Youth got a bluray release earlier this month

I think I saw the first half of that movie but could not follow what was going on for the life of me. Is this typical?

It is Leiji Matsumoto as fuck.

And kinda sorta assumes you know the character already but not really.

basically earth lost a war, the occupiers are total americans dicks (but the sellout earth gov't that now collaborates with them is shameful)

harlock meets tochiro who he was basically always best bros with and never knew it, going back to their ancestors being best bros (hence the ww2 flashback)

harlock's g/f makes resistance radio broadcasts and is being hunted by the bad guys

tochiro (somehow) secretly built a fabulous space battleship and they use it to kick much ass


that's pretty much what the movie's about.

the serious answer to "where did Arcadia come from in the Arcadia of My Youth/Endless Road SSX timeline?" is probably something like "Tochiro was part of a top-secret development group tasked with building a prototype next-generation space battleship; when it looked like the war was going to be lost he switched the focus from front-line combatant to autonomous pirate-themed cruiser"

sort of like how in Space Battleship Yamato the original purpose of Yamato was as a last-ditch colony ship to [somewhere the hell away from here], and then was repurposed to wage a one-ship war across the intragalactic gulf



which reminds me i need to f'n sit down and watch Yamato 2199

but that said Arcadia has always pretty much been Tochiro's baby in some way or another. the Space Pirate Captain Harlock series had Tochiro and a bunch of renegades building the supership off on a remote and desolate planet. I think the implication in general is that robots do a lot of the grunt work and leave Tochiro free to design it (and then wrench on it a bit)

i just want to believe tochiro is a magical potato head

I'm rewatching some of Free with a friend who wasn't caught up.

For a show like this I just love how much they put into the "acting" in one scene in particular in episode 6. With almost no dialogue you just have Haru expressing so much from body language and his actions and it's great.

I noticed Kyoani still does the "shot of characters' feet as the talk" thing in Free. Boys curling their toes in nervous excitement mmm mmm.

So I've been watching Gundam recently. Good shit.

What brand of Gundam ? There's just so much of it.

Tried to get into the original series. Herr... I plead guilty to superficiality, but it just looks dated to me (at least the first three or four episodes I've actually watched).

On the other hand, Igloo, the only other Gundam stuff I've watched was the shit.
