If you're watching the original series, the movies seemed pretty good to me. I don't know how much material I missed, but I found them enjoyable and it was a much less significant sink of my time.

So far I've watched all of Unicorn that's released so far, Igloo, and 0080 War in the Pocket which was fucking fantastic. Apparently people think Gundam is Japanese WW2 apologism which is fucking out there considering out anti-war it is.

Probably the same people who think that Starship Troopers (the Verhoeven movie) is a neo-fascist screed.

Isn't that just the bad guys ranting and justifying themselves though? I mean everybody expects Villains in Nazi getup to make speeches about the righteousness of their cause. I don't remember anything in 0083 that objectively made it seem like Zeon was right.

0083 makes the whole of operation stardust be the genesis of the Titans

and characters like Kelly and HLV base guy seem more sympathetic than most of the Federation characters who are mostly useless idiots who end up as Titans

maybe the whole thing is just emblematic of trying to extend the OYW to infinity with side stories which more or less began with 0083

Well the UC verse stuff is usually at least better than most of the AU series, so i'm going to have to disagree with you there.

what do the AU's have to do with 0083 being bad? being UC doesn't excuse a show where the main character's only notable trait is being deathly afraid of carrots

I wasn't talking about 0083 in particular, just saying that I don't mind the "endless amount" of UC-verse material since it usually ends up being better than the other timelines.

well so many of the AU's are judge on how close they are to being UC and get thrown back in line if they try to deviate too much

nothing in all of Gundam has managed to top Turn A though

Gundam 00's first season tried to do something genuinely new, which surprised me since from the promotional material I thought it would be an updated Wing like SeeD was to MSG. I had high hopes for AGE trying to do something with a multi-generational "long war," but doing it like that left too little time for each generation's characters to be properly developed

I've never actually seen Turn A, but people keep recommending it. One of these days i'll have to check it out and........

Oh man yeah that whole scene was adorable as hell. Especially Makoto's expression at the end.

And then there was Rin's whole final scene in that ep and just daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn <3

rin getting jelly like that was a great way to humanize him a bit after going all major jerk

but i must admit during that scene i couldn't help thinking

Rin's whole emotional expression during the episode was pretty great. His immediate depression after the initial victory rush wore off, his confusion and denial when Makoto confronted him, and his reactions to the relay

Like that's what it's about. Delaz and Gato are guys who strongly believe in a certain thing and get so lost in that they die, everyone they are supposed to protect dies and they achieve nothing.

in execution it's like another one year war highlight reel show
