the only concern (aside from academic stuff and abstract recurrent worries) is that it seems that when i am happy and active, as i am now, i find that i am significantly less responsible with my money than i always have been in my life
i am usually pretty good at finances and savings but i will probably be flying home with less than 100 dollars to my name
fortunately i haven't taken on any debt either
and i think i have an amazing job waiting for me for when i touch down in saskatchewan
so as usual i will continue to make impulsive decisions and rely on providence to see me through
now is the time to rely on providence
let it carry you through for a bit until you figure something out
oh wait nvm the bc ndp are gonna win the election, we're all fucked
this is basically what led to the closure of the local game store

Wore myself out so completely yesterday that I fell asleep watching TV last night, woke up and went to bed at around 1030 and then still slept 8 hours. On a Saturday.
It was actually great. I hadn't slept well last week.

So a week ago Rhi got back from a field study in San Salvador. She brought some fever that had been going around there, and finally I'm showing the symptoms of it. So this morning I wake up with sinuses that feel like they should gloriously explode when poked. I blow my nose, expel a grape-sized clod of brownish-yellow mucous, and in general this is what I feel like at the moment:
this is basically what led to the closure of the local game store
what??

no, it was even dumber than that. there was this guy and girl who were sort of fooling around, but she wasn't really interested in him, and she eventually decided to fuck the game store owner who knew both of them.
the guy and girl had an argument outside the game store while they were at board games night, which he concluded by walking into the store to grab his shit, and then slamming the front door as he left.
well, this shattered the big glass pane in the middle of the door, and the property owner then decided to kick the game store out (and maybe the game store owner's parents too? he was basically using the front half of their little print shop), and as the store wasn't really making a lot of money he just decided to close up shop.
(supposedly the property owner also cited "people smoking out front" as a reason, which strikes me as kinda bullshit all around, but w/e)
when i first heard this story about how poor zachary got huffy because he didn't get to put his penis into her vagina, that scene was what i thought of

So it looks like my MP is going to introduce an amendement to the Firearms Act that would privitize the current system and take it out of the hands of the RCMP as well as introduce one set of regulations at the Federal level and elliminate the Provincial Cheif Firearms Officers. Which, is all good in my opinion.
Except privatisation is a dirty word here, and it should be. Its always a financial boondoggle for those that have to bear the cost.

But then Hydro in Ontario was so badly managed before privatization that we now have to pay a "debt retirement charge"

I'm not opposed to privatization on principle, but down here the private entity that takes over from the government is usually so concerned with profits that the service ends up more expensive and less efficient, or just outright excludes portions of the populace due to increased cost.
tl,dr, America's corporate culture makes privatization an inherently bad idea down here.

And now the Liberal's have elected Justin Trudeau as party leader, his father was...not very popular out West. The party is almost dead and they pick the son of one of our most controversial PM's as leader, is the plan to rely on brand recognition?
Fucking guy is going to get mauled by Harper's goons.

So we had a state-owned hydro electric scheme in place
At the end of the 90s they split it into three companies, the one that runs the dams, the one that maintains the long distance transmission, and the one that markets and distributes the power. The whole point of this was to prepare to enter the national grid and bring some money via an 800 million dollar cable that the taxpayers threw their bit in for. Since that came online we've been hearing about how they keep posting record profits, then turning around to look at Tasmania and pout and say we're a burden and that's why our energy costs so much. Best part was when the carbon tax came in, and they warned us that it would mean a pricing hike, while in parallel press releases courting the mainland market with their 'clean energy'(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Every time there's a shitload of wind and a bunch of suburbs get knocked out for several hours(days for the poorer 'burbs if the damage is widespread), they complain to us that it's unfair that they have to shoulder the cost. Aurora are staggering whingers.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and this privatised-but-still-taxpayer-subsidised business used a chunk of that cash we feed them to get naming rights on a football stadium. That gets like three games a year played at. But OH JEEZ YOU GUYS ARE A BURDEN, WANTING A STABLE ENERGY SUPPLY.
