**the swedish police say that the national id card is not valid in romania because they are not a part of the schengen area, so you cannot fly there directly without a passport. HOWEVER, the EU laws about this stuff say that a national id card is a valid travel document in ALL EU countries, regardless of their schengen status, so you CAN go by train to romania from another EU country and they will totally not mind. it's awesome. i'm awesome. because i figured this out by myself
