That's the worst. You'd think they could just be grateful to have someone to drive their drunk ass home.

Man, I spent about six months in 2011 not drinking because of medication I was on, and it was amazing how in-your-face people can be about not drinking. Like, serious actual hostility because I was daring to have a red bull without any vodka in it. It was incredible.

And I hear people say the UK doesn't have a drinking culture :V

I tell people I used to be an alcoholic, that shuts them up.

I tell people I haven't gotten drunk since the accident and that I don't want to hurt anyone else. That story makes people much more comfortable than telling them that I just don't like the feeling.

I tell people to go fuck themselves and get another ride home if they are being that obnoxious about it.

I just tell people I don't like it.

If that bothers them, it's not my issue.

There's a girl at work who has been here for years. She doesn't drink, and given the hospitality culture that must have been a hell of a thing at first. A few months ago she came to me on a Monday morning and said 'you'd be proud of me. I did a shot on the weekend!'

Uh... Good?

the only way I can think that statement could go well
is if it's a smarmy trolling way of saying 'lol I don't trust anyone'

historical animosity towards muslims

and the more i learned about it the less i liked them as a people

a few attempted genocides kinda sour you on the idea of friendly relations

but i don't let it affect my interactions with muslims because i don't really feel anyone alive today, here and now is really responsible for the actions of people who weren't even their ancestors given the wide geographic spread of islam

I'm that way with all religions. Though at least outside of prison in the US they don't pressure random people they don't know into believing in their pedophile prophet.

it has nothing to do with the beliefs or tenets of the faith

it's kinda like some of the animosity you might imagine amongst the chinese towards the japanese

or maybe the poles towards the germans and russians

or the ethiopians to the italians?

i dunno

Fun fact: in my last year of school I got into an argument with a sikh bloke named Harjit over something and totally burned him in front of a room full of people. In retaliation for his wounded pride, he had my mother's car keyed. Initially I thought this was some kind of cultural trait, but later when I met this guy's father(who was a wonderful, genial man) I realised that Harjit was just a cunt and did not reflect the rest of his culture.

I realise this personal anecdote doesn't quite compare with broad historical strokes, but we've got to start somewhere mate.
