wow so fisherman is the most deadly job in america according to cnn

tbh i was expecting it to be something like cab driver

before you laugh consider that a lot of people get injuried in automobile collisions.

driving is one of the most dangerous things people do and a cabbie spends a lot of time on the road

and unlike something obviously dangerous like fighting fires, drivers have less rigorous safety precautions

i wasn't completely off though, a few of the jobs in the top ten were there due to driving

by fishermen they mean people who work on commercial boats under dangerously wet and slick conditions where they're liable to get tangled up in nets or dragged into grinding machinery

Mang, you need to take up bangstickbeating for real fun. Escrima's all the peasants had when swords and blunderbusses were outlawed. That sucks. Do they have PSA,IPSC or three-gun matches in teh Filipines? Now those are rewarding. If ya got the guns, have the fun.

i did muay thai and fencing when i was young and supple. i tried kendo but the fencing reflexes took over and after one sparring session that was that. choreographed lightsaber stick fights, while good exercise, just don't hit any hot buttons for me. but hey, i'm an asshole anyway and i'm not denigrating shroomy for his fun.

So, RE: The Singularity thread in SLAM...

I'm starting to worry that the danger in the field of AI research isn't the AIs themselves but the people programming them - specifically the fact that they are bonkers, if Starglider himself and his anecdotes about others working on the field are true.
They seems to have a bit too much faith in what they do. I mean, I'm not one to usually talk about Hubris in Science and "playing God", but in this case...

Apparently no. From what I understand his work in the financial sector is way to earn money for his AI research and develop relevant algorithms in the field.
