So some fleet dude that friended me resulted in a 'people you might know' sidebar of a swimsuit-clad woman. Following the link, it turned out her wall was open for business, and this was the second most recent item on there:

So I have Google as my homepage mostly because it was kinda sorta default and I'm too lazy to pick anything else ever.

Anyway I click the little Home icon on IE9 just to pop a quick search for a site I'm too lazy to bookmark/type in the URL.

And Google gives me one of those little blue banner things that says, "Come to this site often? Make Google your homepage!"

Oh Google you silly goose. :v

Alec Baldwin was trying to channel Shatner and didn't pull it off

Tim Curry as the twitchy doctor worked on so many levels, even though I felt the same character in the books was somewhat more fatherly, if prone to quiet hysterics.

I like in the commentary where McTiernan cops to Connery's questionable Russian. He's like "Yeah, he's no linguist."

The real star of the film is Sam Neill. Oddly, the only one with a Russian accent. Next to Scottish captain and the English doctor.

Also, it's weird to see Daniel Davis not be English.

He wasn't the only one was he? I seem to remember some of the junior officers had Russian accents.

Or, to be fair, close enough that I couldn't/can't tell the difference.

The crew members/NCOs too, but they barely spoke.

his name is not grammatically correct for a lithuanian :colbert:

The book was written by a right wing shill, chances for accuracy are not high.

Which would have been pretty awesome if everyone sounded like Tim Curry. It'd be a ship full of English people, and their captain would be audibly different.

I'm fairly certain that I can't tell the difference between a Lithuanian accent and a Russian accent. I'm pretty sure that my ear would say, "Eastern European" and stop at that.

I'm not sure that I've ever heard a Lithuanian accent...

Lithuanian's a Baltic language and Russian a Slavic one, so I'd imagine there'd be a considerable difference, right?

Intellectually I know that. But having the ear to tell the difference isn't the same thing.

Broadly speaking, unless I have the two right next to each other, so to speak, I'm unlikely to be able tell the difference. I just don't have the experience with the accents.

It's like Australian accents. I know there's differences, but I can't tell the difference between them and a New Zealand accent, much less each other.

HOLY FUCKING CHRIST! I just found out you can make caramel sauce with beer. I knew you could make desserts like cake or icing with beer, particularly stout.

But caramel?

Must. Try.

Ok why is everyone on SDN practically calling the election for Obama? My local news station has Obama at 171 and Romney at 183.

i was just watching fox news and they were calling states with <1% of districts reporting

what the hell. and some viewers actually asked and megyn kelly said "that's how the decision making process works"

ok i'm taking that totally out of context, she went on to talk about stats, temporary majorities, and history and how that influences the projections. but still it seems totally ridiculous to me to "call it" based on that

i like the laws some countries have where you can't announce results until the official ones are in, and that happens only after enough are counted that the result simply can't change

but that is prolly a lot harder in america because we span too many time zones

still i like it better than the silliness we deal with now

I was concerned for a bit that Romney was ahead, but it looks like Obama's pulled into a slight lead. I hope it stays that way.

probably because at this point if romney doesn't win ohio he literally can't win

there's also the fact that obama's count from that is more like 245 since they don't include the pacific states yet

So Obama did in fact win. Now instead of looking 15 years older he can look 30 years older four years from now. :v

And man I bet N&P is going to be even smugger than usual. I'm almost afraid to look.
