i've driven drunk exactly once in my life (coming from a prairie city where driving is necessary, intoxication is the one of the only after-hours activities, and the taxi services are a price-inflated cabal, this is less than most)

what disturbed me most during my drive was my sense of false confidence; even when i was merging onto a highway in the winter at night i felt totally comfortable and in control when outside the car i was wobbling on my feet

So I just read that they are indeed doing a sixth season of TCW. Normally i'd be excited but at this point the show has been going on for twice as long as the war it's meant to portray. How much longer can they go on before the premise becomes stale? Also, I know I was laughing with everyone else when Traviss' bullshit got retconned by the series, but recent seasons have started to throw out some of the few bits of the EU that I actually like.

To top that off, i'm worried that the switch to disney could be a serious shark-jumping moment for the series.

M*A*S*H: 1972 - 1983
Korean War: 1950 - 1953

I think TCW is still good. :v

As far as moving to Disney XD, we'll see. I don't know that they'd be any stricter censorship wise than Cartoon Network was. I think a lot of people just see "Disney" and assume. But then, I don't watch any shows on that channel so not entirely sure. But even CN has done some edits of certain moments (like the ARC getting impaled with a lightsaber) so meh. I don't think there's any cause for doom and gloom.

Disney made the pirates of the Carribean movies, owned the company that made every fucking Tarantino movie as well as ABC which had such kid friendly shows as Lost. So anyone who thinks they are going to force Lucasarts to change something that's working quite well for them is a goddamned idiot.

I'm probably just overreacting due to the Disney="kiddie" meme that's been around since forever, but I just can't shake the bad feelings over the switch. I'll admit that there's probably nothing to worry about.

As for overruling continuity, the only thing they've really done that I don't like was kill off Adi Gallia, which indicates that they are going to overrule the Dark Horse Republic/Empire/Rebellion line of comics, which are some of my favorite parts of the EU.

pat sajak at the end of today's wheel
i think i could rob a convenience store. i'd go in there and they'd call the police. when they give the description, they'd say "Well he looked like Pat Sajak"

so they'd be looking for a guy who looks like me, not me, because why would i rob a convenience store?

i think i could get away with it
lolololol

Eh, even Cartoon Network has censored some stuff here and there.

I don't think it'll be an issue though. I suspect the writers and producers will keep doing what they've been doing and worst case is some lightsaber impalements get cut in the broadcast version while the web version on SW.com and the DVD/Blu-ray releases are uncut.

Nobody's taking away those comics, they still exist. And unless you're in the VS debate or a Wookieepedia Canon Nut the retcons don't really matter. If you liked the old stories you can always read them again. The whole canon/continuity thing is highly overrated* anyway.

This is basically the attitude I've adopted after the bullshit of Marty Stu Starkiller basically founding the Rebellion and his 'family crest' being the Rebel symbol despite the obvious symbolism of the GR's symbol being almost identical which is far more logical an inspiration but anyway, shit EU is shit EU.

*This is not obviously a free pass for outright sloppy writing and just not giving a shit - unless it's like The Simpsons where it's part of the joke. But for Star Wars it's always been known that what George Lucas does is more important than the EU and he's never been bound by it, and given Lucas is involved with TCW well that's just the way it goes: if the Bearded One likes a story idea they run with it and the EU just gets a retcon. That's been my impression of the process, anyway. I don't know if Filoni himself and/or the writers can/would just ignore EU if they felt like it.

I'm pretty sure that had more to do with FCC standards than anything else.

Isn't Cartoon Network technically exempt from that stuff, being a cable network? I know that only HBO, Showtime and the other movie channels are the ones who actually use that to their advantage (though TNT and USA have stopped bleeping "shit" though they won't go so far as "fuck" apparently), but strictly speaking CN doesn't have to worry, do they? It's basically up to whatever standards they set for themselves.

Unless there's some "well it's 'animated' and 'for children'" rule I don't know about.

i don't believe there's any federal requirement, but they still have to placate cable and satellite companies who don't want to lose subscribers b/c johnny pisspants' mommy got angry about dumb shit

also joe lieberman would probably start to make noises about regulating satellite and cable if they went hog-wild

that said it boggles me that the Daily Show censors their swears. they're on at like 11 PM on comedy central. what the fuck

No. The FCC does not control cable television content. Have fun being an ignorant jerkoff.

it made me lol so much the first time I saw that

"suits"? more like "shits"! I counted some of the episodes of season one, they used it like 11 times per episode.

season 2 seems to have toned down a little (but im not actually counting anymore, the novelty has worn off) but it is still totes there and it makes me lol a bit

I think the Daily Show has earlier re-runs, maybe that's why they do it.

I can't think of any other reason since 11:00 is about the same time that Comedy Central shows un-edited versions of its "Roasts."

The reason cable networks censor profanity is due to their advertisers.
