You know it's funny, because our professional conduct class indicated that a bunch of rules were made to encourage lawyers to stop giving advice on everything, because people will typically go to lawyers for all sorts of non-legal shit. Apparently financial advice makes up a remarkable number of requests to lawyers, despite it being an untrusted profession and also no expertise in finance lol

Trust me, I know just how dumb or careless people in the medical profession can act - like refusing to give painkillers to an old-woman dying from cancer or refusing to give her oxygen while she was literally drowning as her lungs where filling themselves with bodily fluids, causing her unspeakable pain in her final moments just because they don't care...

one of the many wonderful effects of a for-profit healthcare system is doctors being a bit too eager to try invasive, expensive procedures over other choices

this is a major cause of our relatively high infant mortality rate, obstetricians fucking love pushing c-sections and epidurals and placing mothers in a delivery position that's risky for the baby and uncomfortable for the mother, but convenient for the doctor

another part being that insurance companies hate paying for pre-natal care and education

doctors also like to over-prescribe medications that someone might not really need because they're getting kickbacks from big-pharma for pushing certain brands

lol, they do it here because people expect to be given something and will nag the shit out of the doc for anti-biotics even if it's not effective for the issue.

Someone really need to make a marketing campaign for gps to change people's expectations back to what ynwere in the 60s

No shit, medicine isn't a miracle and I sometimes wonder where that expectation started.
