I blame tv

People don't go to doctor to be told things anymore

They go to doctor to make a series of demands cause they already know the 'answers'

I don't just mean ads because plenty of that shit doesn't happen here

I mean tv that creates the illusion of competence of knowledge in viewers such that they believe they understand some complex issue or system by osmosis

You mean like a variant of the 'CSI effect' but with House instead?

I don't even think its specific to what's in question

People get the idea that a smattering of knowledge is 'just like' an in depth understanding of something because LIKE ON TV

It's like when guys talk about IT problems using words they've heard tech guys or help desk use, and they don't even know what they mean

'reboot the desktop to restore the disk image'

Yeah right guys

Admitting you simply don't know what you're talking about is too hard for people these days

Alot of the problem is that medicine is run like a business, with "get them in, get them out" attitudes and shit like that. It's baffling to me why medicine is a for-profit enterprise anymore.

So I hear there's already a lot of nerd-rage about Diablo 3, about the graphics ("they would have looked good in 2004") and about the "dumbed-down" game mechanisms ?

Neither do I, not having played the first two ones in the first place. I'm just curious to see how Blizzard is going to deal with the NERD RAEG, given that they, like Valve, seems to have made videogames nerds their own little bitches in the past decade or so.

From the few blurbs I have read left and right, the negative reactions seems to boil down to "They changed it ; now it sucks" - basically nerds just wanting to be fed the same re-hashed shit again and again (See : Mechwarrior Online). Mind you, my dataset is very narrow (3 or 4 individuals), so it may be biased...

How can the game mechanisms get any more dumbed down than D2? However, the graphics are pretty and I'm playing on low.

Why does every game have to have cutting edge new age graphics?

how else are they going to justify spending $5000 on a wateredcooled tower with ten SSDs that was made obsolete 6 months later?
