I recognized that potential murderer Irishman as one of the goofy Generals from Pentagon Wars lol
Sometimes when Chuck goes on a rant you can really feel his teacher instincts coming through as he performs the duty outlined by the comic on the previous page
still it was an interesting discussion on which holograms are alive and which aren't

Re: Trek Thread
What episode are you discussing?
Re: Trek Thread
I'm going to guess the episode of voyager where the doctor invents a fake family for himself on the holodeck
like all doctor episodes it's a pretty good one

Re: Trek Thread
naw it's Fair Haven
http://blip.tv/sf-debris-opinionated-re ... ew-6632406
The episode where they create an idyllic Irish town and Janeway falls in love with the bartender
and then goes about almost completely rewriting his personality and changing his appearance and also deleting his wife from the program
it comes to a head when she wants to stop seeing him because she feels this fantasy is getting out of control but the Doctor says, "He's just as real as I am!"
which is a bit problematic because the bartender is really not sentient like the EMH but if he is that means Janeway just brainwashed him and murdered his wife

chuck's videos are one of the reliable highlights of my week
i'm not even kidding, i really enjoy them, especially when he goes into more detail like he did this week, or his excellent wrath of khan discussion, but even the mediocre "just recap the episode" ones are enjoyable to me

Chuck's pretty good. Though sometimes its clear he's just doing it for the donation revenue.
In fact, sometimes the better I know the material he's reviewing, the more disappointed i am in the review. To whit; the SG-1 and Batman Beyond videos.
On the other extreme, his recap/reviews of Avatar got me into that show and his review of Korra which I actually saw before the review came up was still interesting and insightful (well more than me, not exactly hard I admit)
soo...

Patriotic? Yeah, it's stupid getting too tied into the successes and failures of a five hundred year old country populated by 70 million people, even if I get too irrational about historical stuff happening 50/100/300 years ago.Infinity Biscuit wrote:A very patriotic chatbot

Re: Trek Thread
chuck has two things going for him that keep me listening to his stuff. even in his more mundane reviews he can usually pull out at least one or two jokes that will get a chuckle out of me. and his normal voice (when he's not doing grouchy picard or janeway) is pleasant enough to listen to that I like putting some of his vids on and listening to it while I'm doing other stuff. And he's usually good about keeping screaming rageouts to a minimum, a rare quality among internet videos.adr wrote:chuck's videos are one of the reliable highlights of my week

Re: Trek Thread
So, having browsed through the first four Star Trek series on Hulu Plus, I have now begun watching Enterprise. I wonder if I should just skip to the third and fourth seasons, since those are the only ones that I remember having episodes that weren't complete shit.
Re: Trek Thread
the funniest joke of chuck's that i can remember was from a b5 review
"[some guy], backed by his many fans"
and there were many fans behind him
i completely lost it and had to pause the video for several minutes to finish laughing before continuing
such a simple joke but totally brilliant

Re: Trek Thread
So apparently Robert Orci's a bit of dick to people critising STID
Never did get around to seeing it. Though I remember being kind of appalled when I saw spoilers about the big bad starfleet superdreadnaught built by Section 31. Since it sounded like the dumbest missing the point fanwank ever.

Re: Trek Thread
So I just watched "These Are the Voyages" again, and Jesus Christ is this ever not the way to end a television series. I know that most people didn't care for Enterprise or it's characters, but reducing them to the status of guest stars in their own goddamn finale is just a giant middle finger to anyone who did. The only thing about the episode I liked was the bit at the very end where you saw all the Enterprises from the franchise (Except the A and E. No love for the movies?) while their respective captains did the "To boldly go" monologue. That felt like a decent send off for televised Star Trek, or at least as decent as it could be given how far it had fallen from the heights of late TNG and DS9.

Might be an issue with Paramount holding the rights.(Except the A and E. No love for the movies?)

Re: Trek Thread
That's right. I keep forgetting that it's different companies that hold the rights to T.V. trek and Movie Trek.
Re: Trek Thread
Don't feel bad. JJ Abrams did too.

Re: Trek Thread
I thought These Are The Voyages was made before the Paramount/Trek rights split (how the fuck did that one even happen??)
