What specific grade level are you looking at?
I hope to one day teach history or English at the High School level, but that's waaaaay off in the future for me.

I am leaning towards elementary school to attempt to get children interested in math early on. Three of the classes I take next semester with my school's program involve actual hands on teaching in elementary, middle, and high school. If I enjoy one more than the rest, I will possibly go that route. The final class I take in the program is apprenticeship. All I do is teach.

Good call on the early teaching. Go for where you really can potentially make the most difference.

The question is : how many parents will complain to the administration that you are traumatizing their child with your knub ?
Anyway, congrats on choosing that career. At least you'll know you're doing something really useful, as unrewarding for you as it can seem to be.

My goal with ME would have been wholly unrealistic (SFX in Hollywood) and I'm more interested in math anyway.

Elementary? You got more stones than I do son. I can't stand being around the little shits. Hell, I barely tolerate my 12 year old cousin. At least with HS some of the students might be somewhat mature.

Apparently I'll be teaching at the elementary and high school schools I attended. Some of my favorite teachers are still there, so that will be very cool.

I don't think that will be a problem.
If the administration is okay with me allowing high school students (I'll be certified for grades 6-12) to call me Knubs, I'll let them.

What I teach is dependent on how I enjoy the time with the various age groups. When I take a six hour course to get my certification, it will be teaching at the high school level. If it's at my old high school, I'll have support from two teachers if they're still there.

Thanks, everyone.
I'm currently running the numbers for what I will actually bring home after federal and state taxes, medicare, social security, pension, and 403(b).

It is. I am looking at other states that have the same program my university does to increase the chances of getting a higher salary. My state is below the national average.

He might teach at a selective school. That's better than average, but not by much.

the problem is all the rest
