This is one of those situations where you wonder if someone made a new friend or something. Because birthdays are usually known in advance, due to their annual nature.

Name the birthday if every single friend you have, right now. No calling to ask, no looking it up on facebook.

I can't even remember the birthday of my sisters & parents, and I often forget to remember my own. :v

I was going to suggest that it might be something as simple as not having specific plans (or even deciding to celebrate on a different day because - you know - stuff happens), and then having specific plans.

i check them on my calendar, because if i care enough to show up to their party i have it in there

because i check my calendar before agreeing to do anything

so if it's a situation of me going to a friend's birthday party without knowing very far in advance it was their birthday? i had nothing else to do and it came up as something to do

I have a group of friends that hang out together, and I see them about once every two weeks, if I'm lucky. One of them's birthday is the weekend star trek comes out, and they're all going to go see it then, and they told me about it a week or two ago, at which point i came in here and mentioned how this means I may not be going with y'all.

great; you didn't actually do what I asked though. So when someone tells you that they are planning a birthday party, you have to check your calendar to see what it is you were already doing

this is exactly what I have done, except I didn't write down a birthday ahead of time

sorry I think I may be sounding like a jerk here and I don't mean to

I just don't have 'calendars' for things and my friends birthdays are often a mystery to me because most of my friends these days I can only see a couple times a month.

Highlight the score for me; has an exact location been picked? I should be arriving in L.A. on the morning of the 17th and as far as I'm aware, do not have any obligations beyond clearing customs. If you're going to do this, I'd be keen on being involved.

We have myself and liz so far that I know of. As for location, there's lots of options. How far are you interested in traveling and how touristy/weird do you want it to be?

Welp, it's actually looking like I'm out, too. A couple friends I figured wouldn't be interested have decided to admit to being star trek nerds...

Like uniforms and everything...

...and I've known these two for 10 years.

Yeah, there's no reason we have to build these around movies.

Timmy, what days are you in the SoCal area? Or is it just the 17th?

Arriving on the morning of 17th, and I believe the day is unscheduled. The day after that we meet up with a motorcycle gang and the next day we ride.
