because whoever set that fucking limit is a fucking idiot

it drives me up the fucking wall
That's the thing though. I don't mind the limit per se, but it drives me fucking crazy that even after I resize a pic the board will reject it. It only works after I go back later and try again and again.

Had history class today. Sometimes lectures about history or politics make me think about the future. Let's face it, America's best days are probably behind it, it's just a matter of how far we're going to fall.

Worst case scenario, I spend my final years watching America bow and scrape to China or Europe just to survive.

Or you might find that the US losing it's influence makes the world more stable.. i doubt our quality of life will be badly effected.

Why does it matter if the US "bows and scrapes"? Are you worried all the people will be living lives of misery or are you just worried that the US's international prestige will be low?

The UK, France, and Germany are all considerably lower on the totem pole than they used to be, but they're doing pretty alright anyway.

I'm not talking about losing influence or having to deal with other nations as equals. Like I said, bowing and scraping. Some days i'm truly afraid we're just going to end up as somebody else's colony or proxy.
That we're going to lose any remaining sense of pride or dignity as a nation and just have to do what somebody else says.

I'm not sure I want to live to see that.

Having a hard time seeing how we as a nation have any pride and dignity. We're not first at anything except spending money on the ability to kill people.

Your fears are unfounded.

Unless when you say, "bow and scrape", what you actually mean is, "not be quite as ridiculously belligerent and self-centered, both as a culture and as a political entity".

Then your fears will likely come to pass, economy willing.

Most of the world has to deal with a giant, aggressive nation dictating what goes on to them. They seem to deal pretty fine with that much, at least.

And again, if everyone can in the country can live happily and comfortably, does it actually matter how much "pride or dignity" the nation has? Does that stuff ever actually matter?

The Sando Aqua Monster versus Cloverfield thread on SpaceBattles, mostly, coupled with running into the somewhat bizarre smear attempt he made against TEO. A bit of searching on Sando Aqua Monster just to see what the fuss was about later... and the internet proves to go below my expectations in just how crazy people out there can get.

Rogue's post reminded me of it.

sounds like you have some lingering nationalist fears there son

when a person who lives 500 miles from you runs really fast in a contest, that's either a source of great "national pride" for you or not depending on they live on your of a line on a map. they are a citizen first, human being second. in reality, of course, it is not an achievement of this or that country, but of that person and humanity as a whole. so too is it with any other "great national achievements". people didn't land on the moon because there is something special about being born in a particular geographic area, but because humans worked hard to make it happen. to arbitrarily say that only people who live in that same geographic area where most of the work was done, yet had nothing to do with it at all, should share in the pride and admiration of that accomplishment only speaks to the selfish and deluded nature of nationalism

Hm. I always assumed nationalism was more to do with ideology than geography. It's sort of like saying "If everyone did things the same way we do, we'd tie in any contest."

Its infantile, sure, but its less... racist-like?

“Patriotism is, fundamentally, a conviction that a particular country is the best in the world because you were born in it....”

Interchangeable with nationalism tbh.

lolwut.

6 days of no response from this one girl on OKC after a few back and forths and her response is to essentially say that I don't make enough money for her taste. I'd already written her off as "not interested" by now. Ugh.
