Someone who wants SRS is given full treatment free of charge, counseling, legal protections against discrimination, have multiple state funded charities set up to help adaptation to new life and to help to arrange support networks (and dating networks) for those who have gone through SRS and a shit ton more.

Arguably more supportive than most, if not all, first world countries.

The downside is that this is coupled with a really atrocious approach to homosexuality. When someone is caught in a compromising situation with another person of the same gender by the morality police the response is usually support with the message being "You're secretly a woman/man, you just didn't know it." The end result is a forced choice for many people between having their bodies altered without consent and then being forced to live a lie, or prison. It's not pretty.

Oh.

I now better understand Ahmadinejad's claim that "there isn't any homosexuals in Iran". Technically, from that viewpoint, no there wouldn't be...

Pretty much.
Though that event was really more of an epic marker to how much both sides completely misunderstood the other in both a hilarious and awful way.

I only know about that particular "quote", I don't know about the context in which it was said.

Ahmadinejad was in NYC for the UN. Columbia University offered to have an townhall event with him. Hilarity ensued on both sides. Ahmadinejad was introduced by the President of Columbia, who offered some pretty harsh criticisms of the Iranian regime in his speech. Ahmadinejad flipped out because this was a massive betrayal of how Iranian hospitality goes down, the Americans thought this was hilarious because "Freedom of Speech, yo!" Ahmadinejad then gently nudged the West a few times and got a pretty hostile reaction, which he thought was a massive double-standard. Both sides throughout the event then lept to conclusions about issues that they shouldn't have because of complete misunderstandings of what the other person meant, like the homosexual comment or when students asked Ahmadinejad about his views about the holocaust (which are so much more fucking nuanced than the West ever gives credit for, and when they're not publicly it's because Ahmadinejad was playing the media like a god damned fiddle.)

I've done that before. I'm still getting E-mails from some Fanfic thread on SDN that I accidentally subscribed to like six years ago.

i just got the weirdest thing in the mail from the mortgage bank

it was kinda like a bill but instead of saying I owe them it said they owed me

attached was something called a "check"

and even weirder it said the minimum payment next year will actually be fifteen bucks a month less than it was this year

my whole world is upside down right now

LONG LIVE THE BIG BANKS

Until the following year they quadruple the rates :v

That's the beauty of the fixed rate, they can't do that. (well, they probably *could*, just buy off some congressfolk to change the law, or maybe there's an evil line in the contract that I missed, but they *shouldn't* be able to)

Taxes can go up, homeowner's insurance can go up, and those can make the payment go up too because the bank pays them out of my payment (they hold the amount in escrow cuz they don't want to lose their precious collateral over back taxes or fire) but the loan terms themselves are fixed, and they're the bulk of the payment.

And that's why I'm so surprised the payment is going down: I was sure those rates had nowhere to go but up (especially since they aren't very high now). But looks like me prepaying on the principal a little last year is already paying some dividends - lower than scheduled principle means lower than expected mortgage insurance premiums at the end of the year.

Alright what the fuck am I watching. There's this show on Hulu called "Legend of the Seeker," and from the half-assed special effects and the nothing actors, i'd have figured it for a cheaply produced Hulu exclusive, but a second glance tells me that this actually aired, on and actual T.V. channel.

If snowden were in the picture the sub would've launched a ballistic missile from thousands of miles away.

That's in Russia. The US Navy isn't nice enough to do that for its population.

"Pah wraiths and prophets. All this talk of gods strikes me as nothing more than superstitious nonsense."

"You believe that the founders are gods, don't you?"

"That's different."

"lol in what way?"

"The founders are gods."
