Bitching bitching.
Re: Bitching bitching.
I thought we were word-filtering words like 'bitch'
btw I suggest it should be replaced by 'natter'

Re: Bitching bitching.
I see no reason why we can't use the term "bitching". The line must be drawn here.

Re: Bitching bitching.
Ok even though I think we've been over this before.
"Bitch" is another word steeped in misogyny since it has two particular common uses:
A guy who is acting insufficiently masculine, tough, etc and so is degraded by being called feminine.
A woman who is being insufficiently docile or not putting enough effort into cradling others' feelings.
Now it also has what is intended to be a neutral synonym for complaining with a negative connotation, but that's linked strongly with both of those uses and so still reinforces them.

Also means female dog. Or can we not use dog anymore because dickheads refer to ugly women as dogs? Get a thicker skin people, fuck.
Re: Bitching bitching.
Dude go lobby to change the word manhole to personhole and leave me the fuck alone.
Re: Bitching bitching.
oh come on
you can't spend all the time you do trolling people with your shit, and then get upset when the situation is reversed
turnaround is fair play

Re: Bitching bitching.
Go lobby to get Huckelberry Finn pulled from libraries you oversensitive little fuck. Because use of certain words should always be forbidden no matter what the context, right? A totally neutral term like bitching is too much! Thoughtcrime!
Re: Bitching bitching.
For all the bitching about "smugtheists", its fuckers like you that drive people away from liberalism with your goddamned thoughtcrime horseshit.

Please don't encourage him.
Re: Bitching bitching.
yesterday i was reading a website about puppies and it said "don't handle the puppies unless your bitch lets you" and i knew what they meant but couldn't help but think of the other meaning
nothing would have been lost if they just said "the mother dog", and indeed, the author(s?) did use "mother dog" for the rest of the article which made it even weirder that it was there in that one sentence.
so what i'm saying is even when talking about dogs there's really no need to use the word.
now there are some feminists who use bitch to refer to themselves, and that's obviously their right, but personally it is a word i prefer to avoid saying in any context and think other ppl should consider avoiding as well, as one step in changing their whole way of thinking. indeed my position is no insults at all; let's not find a new target for demeaning, let's paradigm shift.
god knows i'm not perfect and old habits die hard, but there's real people affected by these things so the least we can do is make an effort to care
btw in the other thread it was asked about 'sinister' but the difference is i've never had someone seriously say that word hurts them. if they did, i'd stop saying it. (actually it isn't a word i use often anyway, but you get the idea)
that's the big difference with these other words - people do seriously say they hurt them, not just the recipient but whole classes of observers too. i'll admit there's times when i don't understand the complaints, but that doesn't matter - when someone says "this is hurting me" the right thing to do is stop it and try to make things right.

If you really want to remove offensive material I'd suggest pruning the Most Likely Pedophiles thread.

Re: Bitching bitching.
Yeah, there's a difference between members of a group attempting to reclaim a word and people from outside the group trying to maintain their use of it. And not that that sort of thing is above criticism, too, but I feel it has to come from within the group. There are some homophobic slurs I wish erased entirely from open use rather than reclaimed and I feel it's alright for me to have a say in that discussion since I'm personally affected by them, but for things like racial or ableist language I defer entirely to those who actually have to deal with it.adr wrote:now there are some feminists who use bitch to refer to themselves, and that's obviously their right, but personally it is a word i prefer to avoid saying in any context and think other ppl should consider avoiding as well, as one step in changing their whole way of thinking. indeed my position is no insults at all; let's not find a new target for demeaning, let's paradigm shift.
