Resignation!

Today I officially resigned from my gig as a kitchenhand.
After two years, I finally have Saturday nights back! No more 6-11PM shift, then coming home smelling like a wet rag. Also, no more certain coworkers.
Woo!

There is massive satisfaction in quitting a job you don't like
They're right when they say everyone should do it at least once

man I find that even a few years later certain smells - especially of cleaning products - brings back really vivid memories of hospitality
not even anything specific just that intense feeling of unease - like you're always one step away from pissing off a customer or your boss

The worst job I had I had to quit because it was that or stab my boss in the chest and toss him face down in the pool.

Yeah, I was trying to find the best way to walk out, but then I remembered that I finish at 2300, after pretty much everyone has gone home. It'll be like the end of Cheers as opposed to the end of the Breakfast Club.

Also, apparently giving notice is a thing.
Last shift is this Saturday night.

I'm doing research studentry (with stipend) and teaching children at an academic coaching clinic.
So it's economically a good move for me, as well as one where I GET MY SATURDAY NIGHTS BACK.
I've worked nearly every Saturday for the last two years. I've had to fake weddings, funerals and an odd number of night classes in order to maintain some sanity.

I remember when you started the job you were more optimistic. C'est la vie.

Yeah, the culture of the company changed a lot in the last two years. They shifted from placing importance on employee satisfaction to cutting everyone's hours to save money. Then they fired a coworker for various bullshit reasons. I'm grateful to the kitchen people for their continued employment, but not the management who perpetually put pressure on departments to be yet more prifitable at the expense of happy employees.
Apparently people around the company are leaving for similar reasons
