What is Oregon's coast like for environmental awareness? Is there a lot of litter? Pollution?

Overfishing seems to be a big issue. But it would be more about prevention and highlighting why environmental cleanup is important than anything.

So it looks like the environmental angle is out of the question according to kickstarter guidelines, so let's go for another angle.

Seeing as ghost-hunting is really popular bullshit lately, what about a "Haunted Oregon Coast" tour? Go over the history of all the reputedly haunted locations along the coast?

people also love disaster flicks. do a doco on how in the event of The Big One the coast is likely to be totally cut off from the rest of the state.

i'm serious, the big one hits, all the roads and lines running over the coast range are probably unusably fucked. you could even get the local perspective by interviewing people/businesses/governments and basically saying "so when the big one hits, how long are you guys prepared to hold out without anything coming from east of the coast range? and that's assuming a tsunami doesn't destroy your shit." (which it might)

Ecotourism film. You could cover stuff like beaches, whale watching, pinnipeds, and rather than focus on promotion of saving the environment, focus on how people could spend their time enjoying the natural beauty of the state's coastline.

That's not a bad idea, though I'm not sure if that would run afoul of Kickstarter's guidelines.

Also I'm totally in the market for someone to do narration.

Also just so nobody thinks I'm being too greedy I'm willing to pay the talent 20% of kickstarter funding + any residuals from actual sales, percentage variable depending on exactly which things they help take care of. (Food and lodging would of course be paid for by the fund.)

Seems fair. U would be a great narrator, too.

Of course right now $50,000 is the money-shot for optimum funding, and possibly idealistic. Anything else is gravy and would be used for things like aerial flyovers, more expensive equipment, music and fx, etc.

Looking at projects already in queue, I think as long as you stayed away from advocacy you'd be fine.

The biggest hitch would be the timing. My time off is pretty much used up for the year and I'd want to do this during Oregon's reasonably warm period. Of course if I went with the haunted debunking route I could pretty much do it at any point of the year once January rolls around. I've got it planned out to about two weeks of filming, shoots and interviews for 7 locations.

Plan it out and I'll let you know if I'm good to go. Odds are pretty good I could, though I'd prefer to avoid winter driving.

Also worth noting that the driver would get considerably less pay than the talent given their involvement if the talent didn't want to drive, but reasonably fair. About $1500-2000 for two weeks depending on funding.

I think I'm going to settle on the haunting angle. It's a lot more year-round friendly and I think I can do it a bit more justice with the skeptic take than most of the bullshit on TV right now.

Winter driving down here is probably way less treacherous than winter driving in Alberta, although if you're driving down from Alberta I'd totally understand not wanting to make that trip in the winter.

That's why I've got a travel budget, fly him down instead. Then rent a car from Portland to cover the various spots along the coast.

Looks like this is going to call for a bit of strategic planning. It's about 60 days from Halloween until January, which is the maximum funding time of a kickstarter project. So if I announce a Haunted Oregon docu-vacation around Halloween, chances are I can plan it out to coincide with the rollover of my PTO without a hitch. So I don't think I'll announce it just yet, but if I time it to around mid-October and send out emails to a few press outlets I might be able to ramp up some serious interest. Think I'mma abuse my power and move this thread somewhere a bit more permanent.
