I don't get it either. I mean, it's not like the fucking dog volunteered. I wonder if romanticizing it and heroifying Laika helps them smooth over the fact that a cute little dog got shot into space to die. I mean, I can see thinking "eh, just a dog, worth the sacrifice", but then the dog's not any kind of hero--it's just a lab animal that got killed for a more interesting experiment than most.

That's my opinion. A lot easier to think "hero dog went to heaven" than "SCIENCE murdered innocent dog".

I betcha if you gave random medical lab rat #342 a name and a story, people would get attached there too.

Did I miss the joke, or did this dude just suggest the Federation name a starship after a dog that was sent into space to die?

I'm still angry about my grade 7 English teacher insisting the dog wasn't named Laika, but Muttnik. It might be one of the few times in my life where someone was so wrong and didn't back down but instead used her authority to shut me up.

I got sent to the office >:(

seems likely the russians would name the dog with an english pun that wouldn't make sense until three years after the dog was born

I could see naming something after Laika as a kind of "sorry we murdered you for no reason" memorial.

A spaceship is probably not the most tactful approach.

on a private forum

can't you say that since the owner is the boss

'qulaity' is defined as how closely someone aligns themselves with that person

thus by definition the owner is always qulaity

I hate it when people use the word "quality" meaning something good. "Quality" can be good, bad, or anything in between.
