Re: Godammed SDN
mostly the shit about how teenagers shouldn't have privacy
i mean terralthra stepped in it when he invoked the universal declaration of human rights (terralthra and ks were both wrong there, i think) but ks's "teenagers should not have any privacy" is some controlling bullshit and his excuse for it sucked

Re: Godammed SDN
KS is being an idiot, but I think it's a case of him not communicating well. There are many cases where a minors right to privacy can legally be violated without due process, especially when the parents give consent, or they are using some kind of public resource that they erroneously believe is theirs.
Leaving aside all the legitimate arguments about abridgments of the right to privacy for minors, the idea that parents and the state are the same and the UDHR has any bearing on what a parent does is the height of teenage petulance though.
Teenagers do seem to have a tendency to get confused on their rights in different situations, perhaps understandably, given how complicated the situations get with them, and how many grey areas there are. But the idea that they could use, say, the 4th amendment as an reason why grounding is illegal is idiotic, and I've heard that one a couple times.

But the idea that teenagers have a right to make comments to their friends in privacy is pretty reasonable.

Re: Godammed SDN
I don't think KS's ideas on privacy are any better than Terralthra's, honestly. He said the right to privacy only applied to conduct between a government and its citizens. I'd certainly hope it should apply to private citizens as well. My sister doesn't get to tap my phone; my next-door neighbor doesn't get to snoop through my mail. (I suspect it should also apply to governments and the citizens of other countries. My British and Aussie expat friends shouldn't have the government reading their mail and tapping their phones, either. Of course the US probably does that sort of thing all the time, but that's because the NSA is made of assholes.)
I'd hope a cop would know things like that -- I mean, if I had a problem like that, I'd hope the force of law would be on my side. But KS is a well-established idiot.

Yeah, no problem there but this one kind of fucked herself by not blocking the dog (why you would have a fb account for a dog is beyond me). Of course, why you would post your personal business on FB is also beyond me.

a family is a communist police state
Re: Godammed SDN
I don't think anyone should expect much privacy when posting things online. What if her friend's parents like to keep tabs on their kids (like everyone says they should) and see her message? You think they might just share that info? They migh even assume her parents are aware of it and mention it casual conversation "kids these days, she grounded yet?"
Re: Godammed SDN
Depending on the context I think I'd be kind of pissed that some other parent was keeping tabs on my kids in addition to their own.Phantasee wrote:I don't think anyone should expect much privacy when posting things online. Re: Godammed SDN
actually let me quote this
realpolitik!!!!!!1111111111You know what, you little shit. I will take a little bit of imperialism and naval intimidation over the Iranian theocracy any day o the week. Iran is a Rogue State that is developing nuclear weapons, and may be crazy enough to use them to commit genocide. It is also a human rights violation on stilts (no Tu Quoque fallacy please. human rights violations out of cynical realpolitik is a far cry from torturing civilian prisoners to elicit forced confessions, morality police, public hangings, state sanctioned killing of free thinking women and homosexuals, sanctioned honor killings, rigged elections and open political intimidation and political assassination attempts etc).

I love aly's love hate thing with state violence

hasn't aly been on the record as being completely against capital punishment for criminals in the past
Re: Godammed SDN
It's particularly amusing to see him misuse the word genocide

Was it really personal business though? Really it was just bitching; perfectly normal behavior for teens
Re: Godammed SDN
lolFourth, the rate of social sharing will plateau as Facebook reaches the majority of the world’s population. New users are more excited than seasoned users to share content, and as all users become veterans they will be less frequent sharers.

Re: Godammed SDN
sdn wasn't chill enough for some peeps (or something; i didn't come in until later) and they wanted to goof off and game etc
so they went off and formed libarc
but before long the fucking geniuses there decided the best way to be a chill place for sdn rejects...
...is to take sdn's most vitriolic assholes and make them moderators
well this is probably my bias speaking. it was actually ok for a while after that still but its not like declines happen overnight anyway
but anywho there used to be a group over there of people who didn't take things too seriously and it had like a comfortable atmosphere
now almost all of those people are gone
