I wondered how he'd find a way to work his burning hatred of religion into the inevitable ban.

And I'm not buying for a second that you didn't know what you were doing when you snipped out that part of my reply, nor do I believe for a second that you are just accidentally putting words in my mouth and saying that I claimed "science is truth" when I said no such thing.
this is why having "lying" as a capital crime is an especially big mistake especially without something like "innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt"

much like with torture, if they don't give you the answer, you assume you have to torture them more

the more they protest, the harder you have to work to break them

the thought that maybe they really didn't know never crosses your mind

there is no defense beyond your word but they have already decided you're a liar so it doesn't matter

there is no defense

man what's even the point of arguing with him, he's not going to change his mind and you'll just end up banned

maybe he has just talk to himself forever

its just sad that you can have a half-decnet discussion on sdn

until y'know the regulars show up and try to 'win'

But either way, I've got better things to do than waste time on liars like you.
you could always step out of the thread

it'd solve your problem and let the rest of us continue our very meaningful exploration of the nature of knowledge

Quickly skimmed Legault's parting shot thread

Is it me or are most of SDN's "debating rules" only there to cover Wong's own weaknesses as a debater, aka his inability to back down - ever ?

PS : funny how many mentions of "rule lawyering" there's in the rules, and how much the staff itself can be guilty of it...
No.

What use is there for "rules" for an internet forum, anyway ? I mean, first you create a rigid set of rules, and then when people try to defend themselves by appealing to these rules, you smack them down for it ? Hypocrisy, much ?

Why not just accept that the board is an Autocracy and be done with it ? :godwin:

i think forums in general don't have the kind of moderator culture that sdn has

the other forums i read don't have the level of huge elitism or us vs them stuff so moderators moderate, rather than ignoring everything until they ban people

SDN is the first and only board I've ever seen were the title of "moderator" was more than an honorific one.

On SDN, "moderator" rhyme with "terminator".

on sdn its about power and threats

Ehh...there are exceptions. TBF they're not nearly as heavy-handed as they used to be.

But a lot of them take it a bit too seriously. like that poophead Thanas and I hope he reads this because I know it was him what moderated my extremely clever pun in the striking firefighters thread in Testing and Thanas is a giant elephant's butthole and I hate him.

oh my god i wish wong would get the fuck out of that thread

poisonous atmospheres do more to kill discussion than any "liar" ever has

indeed a while ago in this thread i was asked if i realize that trolling is a bad thing

i said i don't agree

well here's why: a troll isn't fundamentally bad to a forum

let's define the goal of forums: give a place to have discussions. thus we can say a bad thing on a forum is someone or something that ruins the discussions

what's wrong with arguing something against the grain? i'd say it is actually good because if you don't get knocked every once and a while you get into a circle of self-reinforcing yes men and you stagnate. there's no more discussion, just "me too"

but trolls are sometimes bad. if they are disruptive to the discussion atmosphere, they become bad. if you are constantly negative, that discourages people from throwing ideas out there; it stops discussion, and that's why the traditional troll is wrong

if a troll doesn't do that though..... eh i don't think that's wrong

arguing a position you don't actually believe in, at worst, breaks people's faith in you. but i say if you let this happen something is already wrong

the forum should be open to discussion from all people, regardless of their personal beliefs. if you attack the arguments instead of the people; if you are just chill toward all the folks there, you won't break faith in the first place. and even fi you do, meh ad hominem fallacy. i really believe easy going people are able to be reasonable in separating person and argument

in school debates you are just like randomly assigned a topic and a side

that works kinda ok

so in conclusion a troll is bad if and only if they poison the discussions

and anyone who poisons the discussions is bad on a forum
