Commenters? Again, the article's I've read have been either "just the facts" or condemnatory.Zod wrote:just go to any news article talking about itQuestor wrote:Seriously? Who's trying to excuse it?
Nobody I've talked to in real life seems to think there was anything excusable, and the editorials I've read are much more on the: "Wow, this guy went nuts hard. Why?"
That latter type of discussion is very common after a violent act. I seem to recall it after the child camp (still think that sounds like a wierd thing, but translation ftw.) murders.
plenty of people seem to think it's not really such a big deal because they've killed a bunch of our soldiers

He means the comments at the bottom of the article.

That's what I thought. I find it unfair to condemn the entire country on the basis of a group of people who, in the main, have not yet mastered basic spelling.
What would the result be if you judged other countries by TEO?

I'm not sure how you made that conclusion based on anything I said.Questor wrote:That's what I thought. I find it unfair to condemn the entire country on the basis of a group of people who, in the main, have not yet mastered basic spelling.

You aren't. Akhult is.
You jumped in front of the bullet for him, though.

Re: Godammed SDN
that article commenters may actually be representative of the wider population is a terrifying prospect
but i don't think it's true, because if you look closely at any one site it's usually a small number of people spewing the same shit over every article and most people probably find it just as I'M A JUGGALO WOOP WOOP as you or I do

Or are you just assuming?

it's not like it's isolated to one or two news sites, if you go to virtually any news site with even the slightest conservative bent you can find people defending them
it might not be representative of everyone but it certainly gives the impression that it's not just an outlier
Re: Godammed SDN
In a world with Reddit and Social Media, I don't think that you can assume the populations don't mix. Especially the nuttier ones.
I know I've seen the same Paulite screeds on comments for papers from the Sacbee to the Costa Mesa Pilot.

I've not seen any military people on TV defending him or excusing him at all. I mean they all seem to even call bullshit on TBI or PTSD being a culprit and lay the blame solely on him. I have seen non-military people trying to mitigate his responsibility, though.

It doesn't really matter how many people talk about something
On the Internet only prominence matters
If heaps of people looked at three fat guys fucking a goat that would assume cultural importance far above 'three guys'

Re: Godammed SDN
Not the military, sorry, but there are more than a few people who are trying to excuse it. It was more of an exaggeration than anything else.Questor wrote:Seriously? Who's trying to excuse it?

Although, again, the US government is pretty shitty and very hypocritical to accuse Castro of being evil when it has, fairly consistently for the past 220+ years, been pretty fucking evil itself, from sea to shining sea and overseas.

Imagine you do a job
And that job is dangerous and kind of thankless
And people attack those in your line of work for terrible crimes
I guess it makes you defensive and see everyone else as the enemy
Amusingly, exactly what's wrong with police lol

Don't forget cynical. Cops are cynical. Yes my family has cops in its closet. The longer they're cops, the more cynical they become and the more likely they are to assess EVERYONE as a potential threat to their health.
PS Cops don't place a lot of faith in the innate goodness of people.

I wonder when the desire to oppress starts? Is it genetic? Will it begin calling the Teutonic parts of my ancestry the longer I stay?
