It's only dirty to some people and in some circumstances, we paid the afghan warlords to make nice with kabul but for some reason we can't with north Korea?

It's not like they even want much, and the idea that it somehow makes us look weak is laughable.

DPRK has repeatedly knocked back offers of aid - or at least deliberately compromised them - because the regime's power rests on the perception of an external threat. The US and the ROK have made it pretty clear they're happy to leave the DPRK alone and indeed give it shit as long as it knocks off nuclear weapons development...but that perversely weakens the regime so they knock back the offer, test a few ballistic missiles and kill a couple hundred south korean sailors so the perpetual conflict that props them up keeps going

Right, and they want nukes because?

There's also a new leader, things may not go ahead as they have been.

because apart from the usual reasons for having nuclear weapons the whole nuclear program reinforces this dynamic and keeps the US engaged...pretty sure the US would like nothing more than to disengage from the Korean peninsular, they've been steadily withdrawing forces from there for 10+ years. A DPRK with no nukes essentially becomes a ROK and PRC problem (rightly so), a DPRK with nukes increases both the extortion potential and the external pressure

OK, that makes sense. Apart from having the US involved, what does that get them?

Duh, right. Superpower involvement lends increased legitimacy to the illusion.

Fear makes people welcome authority

It's amusing when a organization can us that to control its own people but not work it out when others are doing it

I mean that's what'd suck about beig 'a diplomat' because you can understand the situation all you want, it's the decisionmakers who make the call

work pisses me off

so the millionaire with a history of investing in companies like we have complains the site sometimes "makes" you register twice (citing someone who came back to the site after a month away...)

this to me means the log in link needs to be a lot more obvious like ACTUALLY ON THE HOME PAGE IN THE OPEN SOMEWHERE

but to the decision maker it means we need to bury the log in link under a stupid mouse hover like a motherfucking easter egg

oh thank god he changed his mind

but this easter egg hunt UI bullshit is why i'm looking at government mortgage insurance programs instead of bringing a briefcase of cash to buy my house

god damn it right decisions need to start being made BEFORE the rich people get frustrated
